It is very hard to think that anyone will beat Ritz. The combination of NYC and 8:11 is just too much for anyone to overcome. He's got to be gushing confidence. If someone does beat him it will be Abdi...

Of course it should be noted that in their only race which came down to a kick, Ritz did out kick Hall in the 2003 NCAA X-C Nationals.

I'm sorry I'm missing the point of your last note. I wasn't saying Hall did not have a good kick, only that when Ritz, surely a chief competitor on Thursday, raced him and it came down to the end, Ritz out kicked him--so I don't quite get the "come again."

Has Torres done something recently that I am unaware of? I am not cutting on the guy. I just haven't seen anything that would make me think he'd be anywhere near top 5. He must've poppped a good race that I missed. Will someone give me a clue?
I am unsure of many things, but the one thing that I am 100% positive of is, HALL WILL NOT FINISH IN THE TOP 5.
I have a hard time believing that EVERYBODY there will agree to a kicker's race pace. I have a feeling that someone will make it more honest.
Most are picking the same top 5 or 6 in different orders, but beyond that it will be fun to watch who else gets into the top 10 and maybe pops a good one and surprises a bit.
Dan Browne is listed as "unattached." Isn't he still with Nike?

He finished fifth (27:43) at the Cardinal Invite, about halfway between Rupp and Culpepper. And he gets some credibility for winning Nationals last year, albeit against a much different field.
Carney should place well. He has the experience. He was 6th in the 10k Oly trials in 04 and then came back to qualify for the finals in the 5k. In 05, he was 4th in the 10k. Now that he has run 27:43, he seems to have all the tools.
Don't forget Josh McDougal. He's only racing the 10k at Nats. He'll have some fresh legs and the man has run 13:20 and 3:57 this year. He will be in the mix. Wouldn't be surprised to see he and Hall keep the pace honest. I don't think he is going to sit and kick like he did at Nats. He won't have a 5k final the day after this time around.
Hall will not win if the pace is slow. He doesnt kick that well compared to his other strengths. Also hall likes pushing the pace so if it is slow then he must not be feeling well

If it's hot, 28:25 wins. Even if it's not hot it will go in about 28:00. I doubt anyone is going to take the pace hard enough to begin with to run under 28:00. Something will go wrong for Ritzy (dnf)
TTC - A special request. I just want you to realize in advance of this race that time will not matter at all. It's all about winning to make the World's team. If the winner runs 28:30, do not try to extrapolate that they are in 26:50 shape or 28:30 shape based on this one race. This is all that I ask of you.

No. He will not do anything. He has shown this repeatedly.
I think this race is going to come too early for Hall. Undoubtedly he has great strength from the marathon, but he probably hasn't had enough time to recover from London and put in the track work needed to be competitive with the other guys who have been running on the track. If the race was a month later and Hall had a 3k-5k race before hand I think he would be very hard to beat, but at this stage I'll be surprised if he wins it.
