Do not be so foolish son. There is no way the NCAA can ask a school's caoch to step down as part of a violation. Especially not a legend in the sport/NCAA.

Excuse me, "there is no way the NCAA can ask a school's coach to step down as part of a violation." Do you need me to cite all the such examples for you. Having coaches resign and/or be terminated as part of violations/infraction commities' letter of reprimand is what happens day in and day out at the NCAA.

What also happens is the punishment is lessened, even if only slightly, when all of the coaches and athletes involved are no longer at the institution. As opposed to just sitting there waiting for everything to clear.

When this is about to happen, the school can make some suggestions to the coach about what he or she should do next with their employment options.

The NCAA was not very happy with various programs from the SEC's ability to come directly out of probabation and win a National Championship (or at least have significant top-end success). Alabama, Florida, and Auburn football in the 1990's for example.

Of course, McDonnell had no idea what so ever about what Braumann had done to provide for Gay's academic needs, so this is a mute point, right?

If they dug through every single file and report from the past 7 years or so (I think that is the NCAA staute of limitations). The "little, stupid violations" are nothing on their own, but when they are added to some more significant ones and then multiplied by NCAA and SEC Championships, the final equation can reach an immense total.

There may be a little more fire where this smoke is coming from.

If he's a pumped up as he sounds then this is the best situation.

A healthy, excited McDonnell can get kids to do things that they never thought possible, it has happened time and time again.

I hope the McDonnell that came across in the article is still the guy. If it is, look out, HERE COME THE HOGS!!!

McPherson? I can see Reina but unless he did something bad Mac was one of their best guys indoors

Reina isn't gone, although he hasn't performed quite to standards he ran 14:40 5k outdoors and put together a solid 3:54, he will develop nicely the next couple years and make regionals in the 5k by his senior year. He isn't the one getting kicked off........

It wasn't an accusation. It was speculation, because nothing else makes any sense. I can not see any other reason for this rumor to be true. He has two years to make verything great again - 2009 NCAA Outdoor T&F in Fayetteville. For the first time in 25+ years he is the underdog again. Other than the NCAA / Ark nudging him, there is no way he leaves now. No way. He has far too much pride and competitiveness to even consider it. ..

What the hell! Since when is regionals qualification in a 5th year senior year an Arkansas tradition. If Rio's last name was different, he would have been gone long ago. He does not have the talen, simply put. 14:40 is an average time for a top 25 HS senior in the US, not a college sophomore at Arkansas. I will not even touch the 4:10 mile either, both not even near Reuben's times in HS. Rio should have gone to an altitude school in Division II or NAIA, not Hogs U! By the way, Johnny MAC attack will win SEC Cross 2007 and be a top contender for the Indoor title. Maybe Stover, who left the school (transfer to Houston, where no distance runners are produced) should stop getting drunk and starting these posts!

Thanks for posting some VALID info. I love it when people like you post info that stops unnecessary rumors and lies about one of the greatest coaches and programs in American history, including HS, collegiates, and pro sports. Well done.

Instead of the present topic, we should be talking about Danny Green Jr. and his new little partner that he keeps going from bar to bar with in downtown Indy during the USATF meet. It is sick to watch.........
