Everyone knocks the chicago course as fast....just go through the results from the past few years then as nearly every good american has run there. Plug the hansons in and see how they stack up. It was also less than ideal this year with the wind and they rolled. 2003 was a trials year and seemed to have tons of anmericans gunning for the standard there and i dont remember too many running that fast.
More power to the Hansons. None of these guys are in it to make a ton of money or gain lasting fame, they just love to run and compete. And they work as hard or harder than anyone out there (certainly harder than any of us LetsRun chumps). The Hanson Bros are cool too. I've only met Kevin but he was pleasant to visit with and a first-class guy. They are making a difference in our sport.

I couldn't agree more. I don't know why training groups in the U.S. seem so myopically focused when it comes to garnering sponsorship for their team. They should have multiple sponsors, and should look within AND outside of the running realm for sponsorship.

I agree with the previous post about the Hansons working hard for their sponsorships while the others keep low key, don't go out and get it, and then cry about not having $$$ for a sweet bus or enough support for their team.

its not that hard to land cash to help your team. go after it and see what happens.
get a local pizza place to throw down some cash, or ask your local health club, and in return put their logo on your jerseys and show up and talk to some everyday runners like myself who only run 18:30 but have money to help your cause.
I know And am coached by some of the ODP guys and girls. They are a great team and help in the community more thatn any other team i know of. They are a ground up team and so was Saturn and Brooks. Thats why they all work so well together. Good luck ODP

I've talked to both Keith and Kevin a couple of times, and they are outstanding people with a passion for what they do. One of the reasons many races treat them so well is that they give back to the events and do PR and other things that they don't have to do. They are very appreciative of the fact that some events (like Chicago) brought them in and treated them well when they were getting started with a bunch of 2:20 guys. In fact, they both believe that they haven't even begun to repay some of the people and races that were nice enough to give them the time of day at the beginning. And it's pretty obvious they are good businessmen, too, given the sponsorships they have been able to dig up.
it's a bus. it can't cost THAT much. especially for a car manufacturing company. why's everybody got their panies all bunched up?
The once or twice a month I get on the letsrun messageboards I find maybe 2 current topics worth reading. I don't think it's hard to believe that elites wouldnt waste all of their free time on here. Let's be honest...
Dont have a bus: "What can we do to improve the sport?"
Have a bus: "Why do we treat these guys like rock stars?"

No, others don't. That isn't a correct quote, either. It was more like, 'if I want to know the 18:00 5K runner's take on the state of things then I would just ask my wife.' It was in an interview, but I forget the exact source. The Hansons have a message board on their site where some of their crew will read and respond to queries.
