Millrose 4 x 800 meters

on track in general? they cover the elites. what you propose is like asking a guy who commentates on football to be well versed in both the chicago bears and the university of akron. this was a no-name 4X800. as near as i could tell, they got about as well-versed as you could about college athletes who really aren't that great. i follow this sport pretty closely and i had no idea who any of those guys running were.

They have a week to be able to say something decent and they can't do it. They knew what teams would be in the race. It takes about 15 minutes to go to each teams web page, look at the roster/results. I understand what you're saying, but with a week to prepare for this met, any human being on the planet could speak fairly knowledgeably about the subject. The bottom line is they don't even try, which is the problem with track. If a commentator covered the Akron game and didn't know anything about Akron they'd get fired.

Agree to disagree I guess. But to my previous point he declared Georgetown's depth to be on the best he's seen in years. That would imply it's historically good not top ten in the nation good. That's a big difference. Second, I'm not arguing that they should have been able to identify every American U. runner in that race, but they should at least have a decent grasp of what's going on. They could mention that Villanova is a little down (outside of a strong run at Penn last year) - they could have talked a little bit about how American has been beating 'Nova in cross-country or about O'Brien and Duffy's success in the middle-distance events the last few years. They could have talked about Oregon (and what happened to them), and hell they even could have talked about letsrun and Cornell. Instead they were content to bumble along and continually misidentify Villanova's anchor and hope that he somehow pulled out the win so American would just go away. They're getting paid to do a job - they should do at least some research. I'm glad they showed the 4x8 but it wouldn't take much to at least pretend like they're trying.

buddy, it's a relay race where the athletes weren't revealed until the day of. what did you want them to glean from the websites that they didn't provide? they talked about what the guys had been running so far this year; what else can they talk about? what was it that you would have added? they sounded about as intelligent as you can about no-name athletes you've never seen race and obviously have virtually nil written about them.

and, yeah, if a commentator was covering the akron game and didn't know he'd be fired. i'm not sure that would be the case if the guy was commentating on high school, college and pro games at the same time.

we've got an obvious college distance/xc junkie opining about what "a decent grasp of what's going on" is. methinks you may not be the best person to comment on that. what they provided was quite decent.

Yeah, but who the hell cares about Akron outside of Summit County?

i'd say there are more people who care about akron football - in the area or otherwise - than care about cornell, georgetown, etc. track. i know i sure don't.

Dave Kuehls sent a 7-point memo on the inconsistencies of 9/11 to LA based FBI agent Shelly Schulein in 2002. She hever got back to him. But Akron-based Federal Judge John Adams mentioned the memo to Dave. Since that time Dave´s life has been a living hell. People want to take credit for work you have done. They will go to any means possible to discredit you and take from you what you have done.

Gtwn certainly has some of the fastest 4X800 times ever run and I'm pretty sure that they held they had the fastest american college time ever for a number of years-so yeah a historically good gtwn team would defintely be top 10 in the nation in the mid distances--you are out to lunch if you think otherwise.(they won the 4X 8 at Penn a few years ago with prople like Lukezic and O'Connell, not to mention the teams with Kenah and Holman) This year's team has 5 guys who are sub 4:05 not 4:10 talents,i.e., Bumbalough, Miller, Debole, Bonsey and Banks. A few more, i.e. Roberts, Hower and maybe Bean could get there outdoors.

The Gtwn team that raced at the Millrose only had 1 of those guys listed above and ran two Freshman, one of whom Maloy is quite good(btw the announcers id'd the wrong guys on the gtwn legs). I don't think that gtwn will be great at 800 this year though since the milers listed above are more 1500-5k guys and the 800m talent is mostly freshman, so in that sense you are right that this is not a team comparable to the 800m powerhouses of a few years back, but they seem to be making somewhat of a comeback after some lean recruiting years.

That's true... that Gtown team of three years ago ran 7:13.7 at Penn which was the #6 time ever in the NCAA, and that didn't even break the Gtown school record of 7:12! They seemed to have a rough night last night, and the announcer definitely had their order jumbled, but they have a lot of young depth and seem like they could show something in the next few years. One thing I've noticed though... since those teams of Lukezic and O'Connell and Koborsi, Gtown seems to run well in lowkey time trial races and fold in the big races, both on the track and in XC.

Props to American too. Their anchor won that race for them when he gutted it out to hold 'Nova off going into the final turn. It was over at that point.

oregon fell on the first leg i believe. The guy tumbled off the track and got back up, maybe losing 8 seconds. They were way back the whole time

well, i agree that the previous 2 NCAA XC they performed way under-par. and debole didn't run well at outdoor nationals in the 3k (but he has never ran his best at nationals. correct me if i'm wrong).

but low key time trials? 3 guys 8 minutes or better in the 3k at BU. BU is a solid timetrial....not really low key.

although i do agree with the young depth.
