Flocast is puppy love, i.e. \"Seventeen\" magazine content. No tact. Just slavish adoration. I hate it.

The race was run on Sunday morning. They do have a Monday morning paper.
Not yesterday, national holiday
Actually, USATF did absolutely nothing to publicize what Hall did.
USAT WHAT???? wrote:
USATF could get this story everywhere, they just are not trying.
My company has a good PR firm, and we earn media coverage all the time, front page coverage in the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, NY Times, various websites, etc.
We are not a large company, we just do the work.
The media is not as free as you would think, if you work with the right people, you can get stories published.
And to the guy who mentioned the date of the USATF website being off, and that it would refresh the site with a new HALL story during next weeks cycle... That in itself is a joke.
The internet is a 'real time' media device, that is why it has replaced the Pony Express. USATF needs to update their practices, they are a dinosaur.
QF-freaking-E!!!!
Right on target.

Did your hometown news paper have any coverage of what Hall did yesterday? Mine didn't. It (Omaha World Harold) had a short blurb about local runners at the race but nothing about Hall.
The 'Omaha World Harold'. What an interesting name for a newspaper

You don\'t need to hire a whole PR firm, just one solitarty PR consultant. They are worth their weight in gold. They have contacts at the authentic media, industry/trade rags, and at the the rising kitchen table rags, websites, and blogs. There are millions of firms doing press releases, like USATF, and the rags ignore 99% of them, there is just too much out there for anyone to even read, let alone propagate/publish. The PR consultant knows how to get your plugs (press releases) published ! That\'s not an easy thing to do with the glut of information these days. A PR consultant is a fraction of the cost of advertising. You can\'t do product branding with plugs though, i.e. they can\'t spread your graphics (logo) nor will they word your prostelizations well, there are downsides.
Obviously the Houston Chronicle had a lot of coverage on Monday, but todays paper had even more, including a quote from that well known running site "Letsrun.com".
"One posting on the popular, authoritative Web site, letsrun.com, proclaimed it "the second best American performance ever at any distance," rating it behind only Khalid Khannouchi's 2:05:38 in the 2002 London Marathon. That's a strong statement and one certain to prompt debate, but it speaks to the magnitude of the accomplishment."
My local paper (Gannett/upstate NY) had a few paragraphs on the full marathon naming the men and women's winner and runner up. There was no mention of the half marathon.
I don't think much of USA Today as a newspaper, but, to their credit, they cover "major events in minor sports" much more consistently than anything else I've read.
Here's the Boulder Daily Camera coverage, which focuses a bit on a possible Hall/Ritz showdown at USA Cross Country there:

nope. you get one more try.
Nothing like looking stupid on the 2nd try.

The Denver Post did not mention Hall and his new North American record at all. It did mention that Elva Dryer had won the women's national title. No word about the men's race at all. It was in the Footnotes for miscellaneous sports on the next to last page of the sports section.

The coverage is starting to appear. Runnersworld.com has a Chat up with Hall from a teleconference the NYRR put together. Surely there will be other articles from that conference.
the philly inquirer had a few paragraphs in its "sports briefs" section that talked about hall breaking curp's record, which he set in philadelphia.
I also noticed that the San Jose Mercury News, which does a fairly decent job on running, had a short article.

Is young Mr. Hall on the same track as the Ethiopians or Kenyans ? I think not, that's why there is there is no press interest. American sprinters, hurdlers, pole vaulters, shot putters, and high jumpers can compete at a world level. There is wide press interest for those athletes.
Hall's performance was the 9th fastest ever. I'd say that puts him "on the same track" as the ethiopians and kenyans for now. 9th best all-time is competitive at the world level, last time I heard.
Almost. Hall has to do the 9th fastest against the Kenyans and Ethiopians to be a legitimate contender.
i read both the Ny itmes and usa today and both had stories on him
You can bet if Dick Patrick had more space, he'd have written more for the USA Today piece. The guy knows his stuff.
