No way the West gets 9 teams in. The push rule can only be used one time in a region.
And was only used once
9 Teams from the West???
Is that a record?
for goodness sake it isn't a freaking war zone in Kenya, they have documentation of when they were born, it is just that some athletes find it convenient to ignore that.
How can anyone call an x-c race "the show" with a straight face?
didnt the GL region get 9 in two years ago?
Washington women get in.
ND was the 9th team from GL in 2002

Bob Kitchens and Paul Ereng knew the game. They went to Chile Pepper, instead of Pre-Nats. The bigger issues are that they are a good enough team to get an auto and didn't, which speaks to peaking, and they also relied on an 800m runner to be their 5th man and replace Mircea Bogdan, which is not an equal exchange. In short, UTEP gets what they deserve, just an individual in the meet. Next year, go to Pre-Nats and get some points, just like everyone else.
Someone has to find some time and do the women with the thought and effort of the original poster. I'm at work and could really use something to check over and see if my predictions are accurate.
If you've spent the lat two or three years hoping for nothing else and training for it, it definitely becomes a big deal when you make it to "the show." There's always someone out there that it means everything to.

Utep isn't getting screwed they know the system it is their own fault for not going to any big races this year to try and pick up some insurance points instead of just depending on getting the auto. The only meet they went to to get points at was arkansas and that was the same weekend as pre-nats so they were only able to get 2 points from that race they should have just gone to at least one big meet like griak or notre dame or oregon or pre-nats they screwed themselves over.
questions about individuals........if someone is a individ. Q'er but their team then makes it as an at-large does the next person then take their place as the Individ. Q'er
yep
UTEP is in trust me. Sayin they're not is akin to saying neither Ohio State nor Michigan will play in the BCS championship game. Anyone who says otherwise is rather foolish.

i havent done any calculations myself, but teams are selected objectively, not subjectively. if they don't have the points their national ranking means nothing.
trust me, they're in. I know :)
when does the NCAA put up the qualifyers?
Wasn't the regional race at altitude? May not have been a peaking issue as much as you'd like to think. El Paso is at 3700 ft. and Alubuttcracky is 5k+.
That's enough of a difference to affect the outcome of the race when going up against two teams that are altitude trained. Granted Provo isn't a lot higher (~4500ft.), but they do have access to higher elevations more readily than UTEP I believe.
I guess the bottom line is that they should have made the effort to get some more at-large points, but I don't know if it's totally fair to say they choked based on their regional performance.
