Or he could have just went to Niketown and got some new ones like he did. I am sure this isn't the first time he ran in new shoes since he is a Nike athlete. I think that was just part of the story of his bad day but I think the food poisening was the hardest part.

Thousands of people eat at restarants days before the Marathon. He didn't get sick ON race day it was a few days before that it started.

The dieticians at my work tell me that food poisoning symptoms can start any time after ingesting the food and may not appear for as much as a week or longer after eating it.
A week seems like quite a long time, doesn't it! Anyway, most times symptoms are not strong so people don't even know they had food poisoning. (In that case is it really poisoning?)

I don't embellish. What part of "direct flight" aren't you understanding? No one would think his bags are going to be lost on a direct flight.
In over 40 years of flying my bags have been lost only once. I'd be willing to bet that Meb has has a similar experience. Meb's choice was rational. They're just shoes. Meb is you, it's not as though Nike wasn't going to get him replacements.
