BOB MATHIAS....he left his " tracks " on this earth....tracks of honesty, integrity and elite level athleticism...after winning in ' 48 & ' 52, he did so much for others...I am both grateful & thankful he was so much a part of our National Decathlon Team. Coach Harry Marra
While I competed in college I had a big blown-up photo of Bob right above my nightstand. I did know the basics of what he had accomplished but it wasnt till later on I really learned how much more he was besides an athlete. He truly was a decathlete- good in everything he did.
In 1994 I had the honor of sitting next him at a dinner put on by the Visa team and was so nervous that till today I dont remember much other than I sat right across from Bob Mathias and that Jenner talked the whole time.
