why dont we do what baseball, basketball and football do. Dont ask, dont tell. the results are a sport that keeps it reputation, and athletes who will make more money because of it. And dont go on about the harms of PED's. Athletes are not dieing or getting cancer at any higher rate than the population as a whole.
Maybe the people who pay them should hold them accountable?
Why does Nike not sue Jones for ruining Nikes reputation and for theft and deception?
Why do the meet directors not sue for ruining their reputation?
Maybe they dont really care

How can companies like Nike promote a healthy sport based lifestyle and then not act when one of their athletes gets caught completely undermining their image?

Just heard on TV, CNN will soon have a discussion of Marion's positive durg test. Guess who the invited commentator will be. Yes, Carl Lewis who himself is a doper (obviously not known to CNN staff). CNN staff will end looking like the biggest dopes of all.
Because people will take bigger and bigger risks and soon one or two will drop dead on the track at NCAA's or Junior Nationals and then imagine the response..
Track & Field is an international sport. Athletes come from countries all over the planet and have bank accounts in banking haven like the Carribean, Switerland and Isle of Man. Additonally, many have leagal residence in places like Monaco to escape taxiation and reporting.
So, where do you sue? For what? The athlete in with residence in Monaco and money in Isle of Man cannot be required by an American court to do anything. In fact, if they test positive in a third country, like Italy (say at the Rome meet), the case might not have standing in an American court.
So, getting their money is all theory. If they have protected themsleves, it will be hard to get it.

Here is the dirty little secret. Most of the track & field public really doesn't care that these althetes are doped up. They pay to go to the meets expecting world records and extordinary perforamces. That's what they want, not clean performances.
Case in point, if anyone saw the Zurich meet on WSCN.com, did you notice that they still list the stadium record in teh steeple as 7:55 by Boulami. The commentators noted that record was wiped out due to his epo test. No matter, the meet organizers still use that mark in their media guide. Why? Because they want to hype to fans to buy a ticket as world records fall at tehir meet and wanted to list as many as possible, even if they were doped records.
The public and meet organizers would happy if WADA went away. That way their would have world records every night and the public would pay big dollars to go to golden league meets.
Beyond this board, your not going to find a lot of outrage over drug cheats.

The opinion of not a doctor remind me of the times of slavery and the Rome coliseum, where human beings fought against each other to death, people loved it and the organization and the politician loved it too, but it was amoral and no one wanted it anymore, because is inhuman and some kind of moral / ethic evolution hapenned in the ocideental world. We live in times of danger, opening pandoras box is very dangerous thing to do, legalise drugs, legalise abortion, legalise genetic manipulation - the perfect doping, EPO is Children plaing ! -
In the end the only thing you will have is your moral and your ethic nothing more. When nobody have that our civilization colapses, like the roman imperium.

I've wondered whether we might see some legislation introduced at some point to make the use of specific PEDs, or classes of PEDs, to enhance athletic performance a crime, particularly if it can be shown that one profited from the use. With Congress' interest, I wouldn't be shocked to see a bill introduced at some point. I doubt it would pass, but I wouldn't be surprised to see it introduced.

I agree with the fraud idea. Racing agains the rules is a fraudulent way of participating in an event. The possibility of doing jail and having a criminal record has to be a lot bigger deterent than losing money and possibly being banned foor some time.
About the article, what do they (or you think) about the opposite, i.e. not adding degree that you did not earn, but not posting one you have. I've been looking for a job for a year, got 2 inerviews in that period of time. Then last week, being fed up with this I applied for a few more with the exact same resume, but did not say that I have a PhD, stopped posting education at my MS and only named the experience that I gained in school and postdoc after. In 1 week I got 2 phone call, exactly as many as with disclosing my higher degree in 1 year. So, should I go to jail for not adding anything extra, only cutting items?
Good point. I say that every time an athlete races in an elite level meet, he/she must sign a contract saying that any prize money won must be returned in the event of a positive drug test later on. Endorsements could have a similar contractual agreement.
