I, and I believe, the majority of readers/posters on this site, totally agree with you. Everyone that lives in this
country or on this continent, came from somewhere else at
one time in history ... EVERYONE. The TRUTH is, that the majority of people that live here arrived recently or just a few generations ago. I live in America North ... my Grandmother was born in Ireland; that means I, generationally speaking, have not been here that long. Most
people I know are in the same \"canoe\"!
Runners are, apparently, compared with many other athletes,
supposed to be somewhat intellectually predisposed! The key word in that last sentence is \"apparently\"! One person
who propagates the idea that a recent immigrant to the US is less of an American then someone that has been here, generationally speaking, for 100 years, betrays the integrity and honor of all of us who call ourselves, with pride, RUNNERS.
Please keep this in mind ...STEVE PREFONTAINE, generationally speaking, was a FIRST GENERATION IMMIGRANT.
Research would likely reveal, that most runners and, in fact, most people in the US ... have a very short history here.
Tomorrow, someone who has applied for citizenship, will
receive it. That person may be a great runner ... from
Australia, Afganistan, or Saudi Arabia! Tomorrow, some ignorant dough-head, whose grandparents came from Luna Queso Verde, will challenge the legitimacy of the new immigrants RIGHTS to live in a country that espouses FREEDOM
