I think Ritz should avoid before-meet-tapering and thus much racing this season. Instead use this year to "catch up" some from past downtime, with a huge, consistent, uninterrupted months block of training. With no championships, continuously proving to be the same 10K'er as when a collegian won't do much good. Get the training while you're healthy!

In speaking of avoiding downtime, he should also avoid the NY marathon this year, as it will require a post-race break from training. He's had too much of that.

how do you know how ritz is preparing for these races??? for all you know he could have run 110miles this week and not rested at all. i think you are making a silly conclusion and you whole argument is moronic. you can never make up for lost tiime. ritz is in great shape and i think he has a great coach who knows what he is doing...

Abdi actually didn't start running until after he had moved to Tucson.

Abdi is way moe sharp from running that two mile a week ago. Ritz needed another 5K or even the pre 2 mile to get set up for a fast 10k out there. Very good run for both of those guys. Too bad Dobson didn't have Hall there to cling on to! haha :)

To How Do You Know, why would Ritz travel all the way to Holland to do a race that he didn't taper for. That makes no sense. If he did he seriously needs to consider changing coaches.

Here's an idea.. Ritz should go train with Goucher.

That is the simple answer. But the reason for me is that Abdi is not much of a professional, and he is not young anymore. He also didn't have one of the best high school careers of any distance runner ever.

If he was 23-24 and he had run 8:44y/13:44 in high school and had won 5 National HS championships and then went on to run 13:27 as a frosh ... well, I would really think he has more to give, but he has been at the same level for years and years. He also seems more concerned about his pimped-out ride and playing rap music in it than getting that last 10 seconds out of himself in the 10k so he could be AR holder.

I also think the tattoos on Webb and Ritz and Hartmann are f***ing gay. Any tattoo on any distance runner is f***ing gay. It is like ruining a work of art, or giving yourself a wicked scar on purpose. Please, if you feel you must scar your physique forever do it with some class like Joe Falcon had or something along those lines. Pat Porter's tattoo was gay too. It made him look like a gay porn star.

Speaking of gay, bloody great call their Flagpole Willy, "Ritz in 27:22." Moron.

There were at least 7 guys in that race who paced out a 27:20 pace. Ritz was nowhere there. You guys who constantly say he's going to go sub 27:20 or even sub 27 are nuts. HJe'll end up with a PR in the 27:20's like Nenow, Salazar and Virgin. Not bad company.
