But if Ritz goes out in 13:55 wouldnt he have to run a fast last 3 or 2k to run a personal best?

Yeah, he would, but by then, it will be a lot harder to run 13:35 or faster for the second half of the race because of how tired he will be.
From your mouth to the meet director's ears! I surely hope you're right.

I think that there will be "Multiple" paces in the race, not just one (e.g., sub-27, 27:20).
Rits will run 27:29. I belive he has a few more seconds in him this season. Although, he might have done better if he waited a little longer for his next 10k. -Ronaldo
Sihine was added to the field, so they won't be going out too slow for Ritz i assume.

Well, his season has really only just begun. It would have been nice to see him get in some shorter races for sharpening, but I still think he rolls anywhere from 27:17-27:27 this weekend. That's a 27:22 +/- 5 seconds. But if the race unfolds nicely and he doesn't get sucked in to a torrid pace, he can certainly go sub-27:20. And it's about time we see that kind of performance if he's going to achieve what we think is his potential.
Besides Ritz and Abdi, Dobson is now running.

WOW, i think itz more important that he accomplizh wut he thinkz iz hiz potential , not wut "we think is his potential".

No way will he go sub 27:20. I say 27:30.
And as far as "his season has really only just begun" goes, Ritz has been training HARD since late fall, with only a short break when he got sick. He has a huge base under him. And remember, 1/2 the time Ritz's season has "just begun", it ends fairly soon after that(injury, illness, etc).
Ritz is in top shape, and you never know with him whether he will have that many more races the rest of the season or not. So with him, each race is BIG as far as getting a new pr. He'll run 27:30 and that will be his season best. Count on it.
I watched the Hengelo meet about 3 years ago in person.
Geb, Kenny B et al.
It was quite hot, 85 degrees F or so.
But they sure know how to treat the runners there.
Before each distance race, they had a truck with a big water tank on the back drive around and spray down the track. It looked like some sort of a street cleaning truck.
Before the distance runners came out on the track to warm up, they announced the stars one at a time and they came running out like an NBA game to lots of applause.
They serve beer at the meet and I was able to score front row tickets (maybe $20?) on the finish line via the internet from the US a month before I went to the Netherlands. The meet was eventually sold out.
After the race, it was ok to go down on the track and get autographs, pictures, with Geb et al.
The it is easy to walk to the town center and eat a nice gourmet dinner al fresco.
In contrast, in the US when there is a 2 mile race on TV they cut away to show us some drug freak (Bonds) hit a ground ball. A live meet with a zillion Oly medal winners(adidas in Carson) draws less than 1/3rd capacity and is finsihed off with a faux rap singer.
instead of continuing to cover the drug freaks at the track meet? come on. i would rather watch a track meet than a cutaway to bonds, but this is the pot calling the kettle black. our sport is not clean.

No doubt he is in great shape, and his training has been as good as it's been in years, but since when is your second race of the season your peak race? Yeah, Ritz has a history of blowing up, but no way is he in PEAK form after two races, regardless of his base. Sub 27:30 for sure, but dropping 12-15 seconds from his first 10k is in no way a stretch, weather permitting.
How long until Ritz is diagnosed with hypothyroidism?
Abdi just ran a rather subpar 2 mile for someone of his 5k abilities, although so did webb. If he had ran more impressively i wuold have considered suggesting a 2715-2720 for him based upon his tremendous year last year, but it's too tough to tell.
Ritz, i wouldn't be surprised to see him go 2727 give or take a few, but like someone else said i wouldn't be surprised to see him go slower then last time either....obviously when you're going for a pr you face a much higher % of reaching that fine line of redlining and breakign down
Looking at some of the names in this race, there is no way it is going to be slow. Also, being an off-championship year; people are looking for PRs. Even though it is early in the year; I expect to see a couple of sub-27s. Remember, some of these guys are coming off of the Commonwealth Games are in August shape right now.
For Ritz it is going to be feast or famine; they will go out pretty close to Ritz's PR in 5000. Ritz has a lot of guts and unfortunately he does not have maturity yet to run in the middle of a pack. The fact is, he has never experienced that in his life, notwithstanding a few out-of –the-box situations. Although we have watched Ritz’s career for years, he has very little international racing experience and this maybe where he learns to race with the big boys and where he may get schooled.
I expect Ritz to BLOW-UP or BREAK THE AR or run pretty close to it. You heard it from me. When Ritz is healthy and in shape, he is very good…good enough to run with anyone. The only thing that concerns is the fact that a hard 10K takes a lots out of your legs; I am certain that is what you witnessed with Webb this weekend. I am predicting 27:15 or 27:55 –We shall see!
I couldn't see last year's total results, but in '04, 4th place was 27:29.95. I don't see Ritz running any faster than that - a nice improvement on his PR, but I don't think there is any reason he is going to run more than a little faster than last month.
B Lagat spots the field 200m and passes Dathan before the 5k mark and end up finish 3rd in 27:01. Certainly under 27 minutes not for the 200m deficit he had at the start.
Abdi said his goal this year is to get the AR in the 10K (he wants it very badly). He already destroyed the field at the US 10mile champs on a hot day. Abdi is also very consistant when it comes to racing on the big stage (never has a really bad race). I am assuming he will get that record well before Ritz is even close to it. Abdi will be in the low teens or under 27:10. Ritz will be right around 27:40 or over (this is just too close to his last 10K....look how well webb and Fam did recently...to go after the AR. Hopefully by the end of the season if he stays injury free he will have a shot at Abdi's record)
You are an ignorant fool.
27:18.20, as I stated on a separate thread.
