California UC's and State colleges are now almost 60% women very soon it will be hard to justify any male sports.
California UC's and State colleges are now almost 60% women very soon it will be hard to justify any male sports.
It was Title 9 that allowed women to have equal access to education not sports. It was applied to sports much later. Looks like it worked from women and education me thinks that sports is just lagging a little.
Heres a few points that I can think of off the top of my head:
Title IX claims equal OPPORTUNITY, but it sets up a framework for equal OUTCOME.
Just because there is an opportunity for women to play sports doesnt mean that the same number of women and men will be out there playing sports. So this legislation sets up for equal outcome.
Because Title IX sets up for EQUAL OUTCOME, the only way to achieve this outcome is to give UNEQUAL HANDOUTS
Women are given handouts of money and sports programs. The colleges should only give money and programs to the athletes that deserve it. If there arent enough girls for a college to offer the sport, then don't go to that college! A girl can go to a different college and she will get a scholorship if she is good enough and DESERVES it, Title IX hands them these advantages.
Title IX is COMMUNISM
Lets get serious, we live in America. When American was built no one was given handouts. If you want something, then work hard and earn it. Lets stop this communism. Title IX takes away all the wealth spread out in the sports, then it makes the college spread it out equal. Sorry, that is communism.
Title IX is UN-AMERICAN(kinda like communism but not)
I thought America was a DEMOCRACY. In a democracy doesn't majority rule? If the majority of the people think that women sports are so frickin awesome, then why do the majority of the people go to NBA games over WNBA games? Oh yeah its cuz the WNBA sucks. In the WNBA championship game, the Arco Arena didn't even sell out. Mind you, Arco is the smallest arena in the league. It only holds 17,000+. Oh yeah that sounds like eveyone is in huge support of women sports.
Title IX is and ADVANTAGE
Okay, lets just face the facts. Women are not anatomcially the same as men. They are just born that way. If you wan't to complain about it then blame GOD. Thus, women are worse at sports(it sucks but its true, I'm all for women playing sports if they want to though). Furthermore, if women are worse at sports(majority of sports, lets not bring up figure skating etc,) then they are less entertaining to watch. If it is not entertaining to watch women play sports then no one is going to go watch them and they won't pull in money. Tuff luck, its just the way it is. Women aren't as good as men(in most cases)
Title IX is ILLOGICAL
Lets see how this plays out in different areas of life.
Some people are born mentally challenged. Well its not their fault they are born that way(just like women are born different than men). And you know what, I don't think it's fair that mentally challenged people don't have all the opportunities as geniuses do. So lets make legislation that says NASA has to have as many mentally challenged people employed as geniuses. And if there is not enough money to hire alot of mentally challenged people, then we will just cut half of the geniuses that work there. HEY LOOK! We suceeded! We have increased the employment of mentally challenged people. Just ingnore the fact that we are screwing the people that actually deserve to be there.
Title IX assumes that men and women are EQUAL
Just like I said before, it may suck but its true. Men and women are not equal. If we are all so damn equal then why have legislation that makes a point of it. We don't have legislation that says the sky is blue. And if we are so equal, then why have a distinction between men and women sports. Lets just have the girls try out with the guys.
Haha, I just wrote a lot and that is just off the top of my head. Please if you can find anything that I'm wrong in, then tell me. Everything I have said is factual. Keep in mind that it is fact we are not equal and I'm not promoting the discrimination of women. By no means. Lets just not turn to communism. We are not equal and its just fact. It may suck but thats the way it is. If no one wants to watch women play sports, then we shouldnt have to.
I don't know what happend but I'm the orignal poster. My name got changed some how.
So I'm Weird and Oppurtunity Not Handouts is the same person.
I would guess you have never read Title 9.

Or you could just slaughter a bunch of Indians and take what you want by force.
Original People if you don't mind.
Yeah I have never read Title IX, thats why I posted on here in the first place and asked people to tell me when I'm wrong.
And to the person who came back at my saying about how America was built(how we slaughtered Indians), you raise a good point so I'll scrap that. My point is still valid; Title IX is a form of communism.

Title IX assumes that men and women are EQUAL
Gee, where do we start poking holes.
When America was established - everyone was given handouts, well, if you were male. You were given land - and you took that from the Native Americans. That is called theft.
If majority rules - then the population of women is slightly larger than men.
The NBA and WBNA and any other professional sport has nothing to do with an EDUCATIONAL Amendment. Professional sports aren't funded by taxpayers. Read and understand the amendment before you speak - because it makes you look really stupid.
As far as taxes and education goal - all people are equal. Education has nothing to do with the size of your muscles or what's between your legs.
You spent a great deal of time writing, but you neither understand the Amendment, Education Law and you don't even have Communism correct. Go back to school today honey and try to pay attention.
.
Of course Title IX no longer necessary, and it’s certainly un-American. I mean, there are no instances of women being discriminated against in this day and age, and the idea of equal protection being codified into law runs counter to the was we do things in America. For example, white people get sentenced to death at a lower rate than black people; that’s not because of discrimination, it’s just because a black life is worth less than a white one – just ask the insurance companies, they’ll back that up. Likewise, women get paid less than men for the same work because women are inherently lazy. Your own mom will tell you she doesn’t even lift a finger around the house, much less at work.
Even when some wacko feminazis have argued that the Constitution has some sort of “equal protection” clause, the Supreme Court has shown them they’re wrong. Oregon tried to limit the number of hours women could work, and the court said it was OK because women must "rest upon and look to (men) for protection" and "to protect (women) from the greed as well as the passion of man." Just in 1997, a jury had convicted a judge of violating the civil rights of five women by raping, sexually assaulting and harassing the women. An appeals court overruled the jury. Now, courts have ruled that it is a violation a person's civil rights to be beaten by a police officer, but the appeals court said there was nothing in the Constitution that would put this judge on notice that it is just as wrong to rape a woman. And if there’s no problem with raping a woman, why in the hell should we make some sort of guarantee that they be treated the same as men? I mean, do you want judges running around raping men?
So if your track team has been killed off, or you’re worried that it will be, blame women. It’s all their fault – they passed the law, they defended the law, and most of all they made the decisions to cut sports. Blame the women that have a clear majority in Congress, the women who are making male university presidents an endangered species, and most of all blame all those damn female athletic directors.
Now football, don’t you touch football. It keeps the whole athletic department profitable, and we know they make money. Well, the NCAA said in 2003 that only 6% of athletic departments are profitable if you take away state and school subsidies, but what does the NCAA know about college sports? And if you spend more on football, you get a great rate of return – $1 in revenue for every $1 spent! Of course, spending changes have no impact on win-loss records. Or on alumni donations. Or on the academic quality of incoming students. But dammit, we gotta have a big-time football team! So spend away!
WOW. GOOD LITTLE OP/ED PIECE....UNFORTUNATELY HAS LITTLE RELEVANCE TO TITLE IX. LIKE THE USE OF BLATANT SARCASM THOUGH.
OF COURSE THE BASIS FOR OUR MORALS AND EQUALITY ISSUES SHOULD BE INSURANCE COMPANIES! GOOD THINKING! TANGENTS ABOUT OBSCURE LAWS IN OREGON AND CIRCUS COURT DECISIONS (U NEVER ACTUALLY SAY WHY THE DECISION WAS OVERTURNED...) ARE ALSO VERY RELEVANT. LAST I RECALL NO ONE BLAMED WOMYN FOR THEIR TRACK TEAM GETTING CANNED--JUST THE POLICY (WHICH IS DIFFERENT FROM THE PERSON...SEE? POLICY, PERSON...PERSON, POLICY). AND GOD FORBID IF A PROGRAM TRIES TO GENERATE A PROFIT OFF OF FOOTBALL (OR B BALL FOR THAT MATTER)--EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE THE MOST POPULAR SPORTS --BY FAR--. A GOOD LEFTY WILL ALWAYS TRY TO TELL "THE MASSES" WHAT THEY SHOULD BE DOING WITH THEIR TIME/MONEY/AGENDA'S. IF PEOPLE ARE WATCHING COLLEGE FOOTBALL GAMES, NOT FIELD HOCKEY (OR XC) THEN WE SHOULD FORCE THEM TO STOP...SHAME ON THOSE UNIVERSITIES FOR SEEKING A PROFIT. PROFIT IS THE ENEMY!!!!
I wonder how many of the women on this board and out there running on the streets and hills of California could beat this dweeb.

cause everyone knows that equality in education is totally based on football profits. That is why the only "good education" that you can receive is found at the 12 schools in our country that make money on football. retard

Gee, where do I start poking holes?
I already admitted that the evidence of Amercica being built without handouts(or theft as you call it) was wrong. But that doesn't matter because it wasn't a main point, so you have nothing on me there. And I personally didn't take the land from the Native Americans, and you live in America now too. You can donate your house and land to a Native American if you want to make-up for it though.
The majority rules thing - I never said there are more men then women. And if there are more women who are all in support of womens' sports, then why do WNBA games not sell out? Even the championship game. Maybe because the WNBA sucks. And this proves that women aren't as into sports as men. If there are more women in the US than men, shouldn't there be more people atteneding the WNBA games?
On to the professional sports. I never said title IX affected professional sports. This was just to prove that women aren't as good at sports(majority of sports) and that the majority of the population don't treat men and women's sports equally. This isn't to say that there is uneqaul opportunity though. (Also to some extent, professional sports are funded by taxpayers. Where do you think the money comes from to build new arenas?) Oh and professional sports have nothing to do with EDUCATIONAL ammendment. If Title IX is educational, why is it affecting the sports programs. So thats what it has to do with sports(I never said it affected professional sports, I just used WNBA as an example. You can change WNBA to the womens' NCAA basketball if it makes it easier for you to understand.
All people are equal in taxes? Thats news to me. I never said men and women aren't equal in education. Title IX has nothing to do with admitting women into college because there is an equal opportunity for both men and women to go to college. You keep putting words in my mouth. I never said one thing about educational equality or equality of taxes.
If I don't understand the legislation, I asked you to help me understand in order that I may write a better paper for class. Yet all the points I made still stand (with the exception of America being built on handouts, but that has no relation to my Title IX points). You have failed to poke any holes in my points. You said I do not understand communism. How do I not understand. Communism is an economic theory that all the wealth should be owned equally be everyone. This is was Title IX does. It takes away the wealth of sports and spreads it out equally to all sports. Even sports that suck and no one wants to watch. But hey, everyone is equal right.
I still ask people to prove me wrong. This person has failed, and during the process of failing has put words in my mouth and spun the meaning of examples.
Again. Equal opporuntiy doesn't mean equal outcome.
can we get one thing straight (at least to START)
The popularity of a given league or sport (WNBA vs. NBA, women's soccer vs. men's, XC vs. football) has NOTHING TO DO with the INTEREST in the sport on a participant level.
This is like saying that since most marathons and big track meets don't have TV contracts people in the US don't want to run in races.
So all these arguments about the WUSA failing or WNBA not selling out arenas, etc. have virtually NOTHING to do with whether women should have an equal opportunity to PLAY the sport that they want.
Maybe I'll get around to breaking down other arguments later
In a real short nutshell. Women pay the same rate for college as men. Because there are more women in college than men women students pay for more of the costs for sports than men. They deserve the same level of support as men because they pay for it in their fees. Capitalism. Title 9 was brought foward because women used to not be allowed into many colleges and even if they were allowed in most programs were closed to them. Programs like medicine (not nursing) engineering, math, vet school. were closed. Title 9 has worked very well and will continue. I can not believe that there is a single quality runner who can not recieve money for his effort. And there are more male track teams now than in 1973 and there are by far more funded scholarships for males in sports now than in 1973. So title 9 has not hurt as much as you think.
Opportunity Not Handouts wrote:

It is so obvious that you either never read the amendment or your I.Q. is too low to intepret it.
When the amendment was passed in 1972, it placed all extracurricular activities (sports too!) at the school level and college under EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES, so therefore they had to be equally offered and funded.
Then you ramble about professional sports as if they had anything to do with educational decisions made in the supreme court that affect how people, male and female, educational dollars will be spent.
So insist on speaking about a topic that you don't know ANYTHING about based on your question above.
You might as well be talking about the price of condoms in Uganda or something because you don't have a clue.
thaprofessah:
Of course there are women that want to play sports. But I dont think we need Title IX ANY LONGER. We don't live in the early 1970s anymore. Women should have an equal opportunity to play sports, but thats it. Opportunity doesn't mean that they have to have the same number of scholorships or funding. Just like track doesn't need the same funding as football.
About the marathons on tv, it's actually like making an ammendment that says all the broadcasting stations have to spend an equal amount of money covering and broadcasting all sports.
apples:
(you have made the best point so far)
Women pay the same rate for college as men(unless they are given scholorships from Title IX), but so does everyone that goes to college. So what should we do about the men or women that go to college that don't play sports?
It is true that women used to not be allowed into school or certain areas, but it isn't like that anymore. It did work well but I feel it is outdated now and there is no longer a need for it.
As for there being more track teams and scholorships, I don't believe this correlation proves causation. There are more colleges now than in 1973 but it would not be correct to say this is because Title IX allowed for it.
legally blond:
I hope it is obvious that I have never read Title IX. I stated earlier that I have not read it. (I'm sorry you have to result to saying I have a low IQ, people don't take you as seriously when you say things like that.)
Its funny that you pick one obscure RHETORICAL question out of my post to criticize. Take that rhetorical question out then. Again, I was just using profressional sports as an example. I agree that Title IX was needed in 1970, but it isn't 1970 anymore.
And yes, I will insist on speaking about a topic that I don't know ANYTHING about because I'm going to write a paper on it. So believe it or not, this is a form of research haha. Notice the title of the thread is TITLE IX HELP. The HELP implies that I don't know everything. I am asking for help.
And to everyong: I still need to think of the three main points of my essay.
"No person in the U.S. shall, on the basis of sex be excluded from participation in, or denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any educational program or activity receiving federal aid."
There, now you've read it. That's all there is in the law, nothing more. Everything else has come from courts or the executive branch.
