Guessing I'll be the only one who see this one as iconic, but have always thought it was a great pic.
Those old photographs were produced by 1 solitary photographer using film cameras.
Today we have digital automatic cameras that deliver 50,000 pictures per camera meeting session. The pictures are sent to India/China for post-production marketing and advertising manipulations.

Not as well known and I know this site hates ultras. But Gary Robbins missing the 60 hour cutoff at the Barkley Marathons by just 6 seconds is a pretty moving image.
this David Madison photo of Pat Porter is perhaps my favorite running image of all time.

It’s definitely a moving image regardless, but I think Robbins didn’t complete the whole final loop, so arriving 6 seconds earlier wouldn’t have done the trick.
