the athletes and people who are involved in the sport will ALWAYS be talking about kwan--ie her peers.
would you rather have the adoration of the public, which knows nothing about the sport, or your peers and other athletes against whom you compete? kwan has done nothing to go out and attract all the attention she's gotten. she's let her skating speak for itself.
if you think that the olympics defines the entire career and contributions of an athlete, can you really consider yourself much of an athlete? I'd expect to hear this from couch potatos but not real athletes.
