wejo, i'm surprised that most of your complaints center around a lack of nba-ization of the meet. i DO NOT want rap music blasting during races, t-shirts being thrown into the crowd and all the other circus tricks seen during an nba game. i don't go to a track meet to see some fat slob shoot 3-pointers during a time out. if the product is good, you don't need all of the other garbage (the nba product is not good).
with that being said, what happened to the surburban 3000? that race always was very hotly contested by local elites (as opposed to a lot of the pro races in which many runners looked to be sleep-walking). i also think that they should have had more collegiate runners in the pro races. they are free and add another element (and probably would runner harder than a lot of the pros). i agree with the other posters who said that the nosebleed seats should be given away on the cheap for hs and college kids. they are loud, want to be there and really root for their runners -- all things you want from the crowd.
the 2 best races were the 2 high school miles. the races were close, relatively fast and the kids ran their hearts out. i'd rather watch them than a 2:05 women's 800 any day.
as far as the track malfunction goes, why didn't they put the track back together DURING the shot put? the track should have been ready to go as soon as hoffa won. instead, they didn't even begin to work on it until AFTER the shot was over. it's always a bad sign when sledge hammers and forklifts are called into duty during a track meet...
