Yeah ok... if they had 2 more guys under 920 they would have been amazing... They don\\\'t touch york or mead however.

Pickerington, Ohio. Jason Rexing went there. He could win any X-C meet single-handedly.
Menomonie Falls North - Wisconsin State Champs - 1980
Top 3 runners:
Tim Hacker
Dave Hacker
Joe Stinzi
Three more solid guys.
None of the teams listed so far were better. Period. Look at the names on the NCAA DI National Championship team from 1982.
Give south Eugene from oregon in the mid 70's a shot. Those guys were crazy good
The John Handley High School team from back in the late 70's was one of the greatest. 6 straight state titles, in 78 they had 12 guys under 4:30 in the mile and 8 guys or so under 9:30 for full 2-miles. Scott Hack was their top runner who I believe still has the mile and 2-mile school records....ahead of Bobby Lockhart 4:06 8:55. (Don\'t quote me on these exact facts, but I know they are close.) I wouldn\'t say they were the best but definitely need some props for what they did!!!!
You can't be serious? Or you are just really ignorant.
Hacker won Nationals, and Joe was an All-Am in XC, but how does that make them the greatest HS team ever?
Hacker was by far the best on that team and he went 1:54/4:12/8:55 I believe. I have huge respect for Joe and Tim Hacker (Dave was just average even by his senior year), but they are nowhere near the best team ever.
There are a few teams in history that have had two guys that fast. South Eugene was one, Mead was another, Monroe (MI) from around 1988-89 was close.
There are teams like York (99-00) and Hammond ('75-76) who had three guys who were faster in one event than Tim Hacker.
So you're really going to compare the York runners times on modern tracks to the shit cindner and asphalt ones of the 80's? I thought we were talking about cross anyway. Sorry, don't know much about the Hammond team. I'd put MFN against York on a muddy cross course anyday.
Dave Hacker an "average" runner his senior year? I have a pic sitting in front of me of the results board from the 1980 WI State xc meet
1. Tim Hacker - 14:53.6
2. Chris Pescke - 15.53.8
3. Joe Stinzi - 14:59.7
4. Dave Hacker - 15:04.6
5. Scott Jenkins - 15:06.2
I wish I was that average (damn cold day, tough Yahara Hills course)
MFN actually didn't win that day (2nd) - 5th man tanked, but that definitely was not indicative of what they did that season.
Sage: 1.51, 4.00, 8.42 state champ in 1600, 3200- Stanford
Cioni- 1.53, 4.11, 9.11- Princeton
Palumbo- 9.06- Iowa
Stasiulis- 1.53, 4.17, 9.17- Illinois
Roche- 1.57, 9.24 (next year, 9.11- Iowa (where he was their top finihser in nationals this year)
Janulis- 1.55- Illinois
Hobbes- 1.53,4.13 state champ in 800- Illinois (won big 10s)
The xc split that year was 28 seconds, I believe. Too lazy to look it up.
This year also had a good team- they won state with 6 in the top 26 and without 2 of their top runners, who were booted from the team.
Mead and York are to me the two great teams in history. I don't know how to call one better than the other, different times and different courses.
1993 Mead HS. These guys were unbelievable tallent and a stacked team. I ran against these men in HS and then were their team mate in College. These guys were sick.
Matt Davis
Micah Davis
Sky Ditrey
Greg James
Rob Aubrey
All five stepped into a D1 school as 18 year old freshmen and were INSTANT impacts in the Pac 10 (Sky Ditrey in the Big Sky conference). Matt Davis placed 11th? his frosh year in NCAA cross country (his career was riddled with injuries) and I believe all were under 4:13 for the 1,600 in HS. FIVE GUYS ALL UNDER 4:13 IN THE 1,600 ON THE SAME TEAM IN HS. Plus in State CC they took 1,2,3,?,? scored something like 27 points. They freakin beat the whole state. In state track, I think they took both first and second place honors in the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 (all without their number one runner Matt Davis. Can hardly even count how many all americans these guys wracked up in college.
P.S. I once ran a 3:55 as a Junior in the 1,500 meter in HS and took 5th. FOUR OF THESE GUYS BEAT ME IN THAT RACE. I felt pretty pathetic.
Laguna Beach. I was on that team.
North Hunterdon, NJ 1983
Andy Martin
Brad Hudson
Bill Babcock
I know they had one other runner who ran 31:50 for 10k on the track but I'm guessing they were not as solid at number 4 or someone would have brought this team up by now.

4th man was Gavin Sloane, a very good runner himself. The 5th sucked - and b/c of that they wound up losing a couple of meets, including one on a 6th-man tie breaker.
They were good, but not great, simply because the top 3 usually couldn't do much better than 1, 2, 3. They ran some absurd times, but winning by a minute didn't help their scoring any more than winning by 5 seconds.
OK- Finally here we go.

1. Mead, Spokane, Wa 1993 77:22 National champions!
2. Thousand Oaks, 1993 Ranked #3 in U.S.
1. (1st Place) Matt Davis – 14:53
2. (8th Place) Micach Davis – 15:11
3. (16th Place) Rob Aubrey – 15:27
4. Greg James – 15:42
5. Skiy Detray – 15:58
*Note – West Region took 5 of the top ten at Nationals with Micah Davis (8th at regionals) getting 10th! Guys like Nathan Nutter (Stanford NCAA champion 10K, 11th at Footlocker Regionals) & Jason Balkman (Stanford, Multi-time All American Cross & Track, 15th at Footlocker Regionals) couldn’t even qualify! Aubrey may have qualified in any other region that year.
Also, Matt Davis stomped the regional field after 3.5 weeks of no workouts and only a couple runs. He got injured doing a fartlek with Aubrey 4 days after their state meet. He warmed up for regionals, won, and couldn’t even cool down. He didn’t run again until he warmed up for Footlocker nationals, where he got third to only Goucher and Keflezighi after doing a lot of leading early and running with a limp in the last half mile! This guy was off the hook!!! Still beat Brad Hauser and Keino

Jesus, anyone have results like that for York?
Already been pointed out but you do mean Greatest US team as St. Patricks could run a freshmen team and beat anyone mentioned here so far.
Hacker was better than Davis #1
Stinzi was better than Davis #2
Hacker was better than #3
Meads 4 and 5 guys were better though.
"Hacker was better than Davis #1

Were they running 3 miles? Cause, Davis, Davis & Aubrey seem faster over 3.
How about their track times?
It's bold to say Hacker was better than Matt Davis if you read what was put up here on Matt's accomplishments.
drrr... it would be easier to win a race on your own... seeing as how they add up the top 5... i wish i could run all races alone... i'd have the lowest score every time!
Nice work on the Mead stats. Certainly some impressive running from those guys.
But, before most of you were born, people did run and some ran damn fast. As "no one" already stated, Lompoc (when Schankel was a junior) is tops. Everyone else is mere honorable mention. The inherent presumption is that we are confining ourselves to US high schools.
