      • Disappointed that he’s betrayed his state and is not running at CU. That said, it’s hard to turn down a scholarship from one of the best schools in the world.

      • I’m also disappointed he’s not going to CU or NAU. You can’t knock a kid for choosing Stanford. The weather is perfect and it’s one of the best schools in the country. I would have loved to see what Wetmore or Mike Smith could have done with Cole. NCAA XC champ for sure. At Stanford, who knows.

      • Most of the top distance guys who have gone to Stanford over the past 25 years are not exactly leaders in their industries. Many are struggling to be productive members of society. Just because the school is more selective in its enrollment does not mean that it prepares its students for life.

        Going to a prestigious school will always be a foot in the door. A lot of recruiters will take the school as the first wave of review. It’s less necessary to perform intensive background and interviewing when you’ve grown accustom to expecting a standard caliber of student from a top tier school.

        I’m not advocating this as best practice just stating what happens.

      • First they have to be motivated to apply and interview. Too many end up in mob protests over global warming or saving the butterflies or in Cambodia feeding the poor. Professors are insane and many of the students end up the same way.

        So which university has most of their top distance guys as industry leaders post graduation? Please tell me.

        The results say that living at altitude and racing at sea level tends to work out very well. However the results of those born and raised at altitude who excel in that environment and then move to sea-level tend to slow down 2.3-3.8% unless they lose a corresponding amount of weight. If you lose weight (Rainsberger) performance will stay the same or maybe even improve whereas if you have no weight to lose (Oakley) performance declines a couple percent.
