Is Kipchoge only 2:46 better than Ward? Is Ward a sub-2:06 marathoner?

Did Rupp underperform or did Ward outperform. I would have expected the time differential between the two of them yo have been bigger. Given that neither of them won the race, their respective times can be considered maximal effort. I don't think Rupp blew up that badly either. Is the takeaway that Rupp isn't that good after all, or is Ward better than we think he is?
Actually you are the moron. How stupid are you? Rupp might be 1:25 faster than Ward in a 10k. He may not be more than a couple minutes faster in a marathon. They are DIFFERENT races.

What everyone is missing is the fact that the 1:25 difference came in the last 10k.
So if Rupp was to run a marathon flat out against Ward, that 1:25 difference would GROW exponentially... probably to around 5 minutes total if not more!
But yea... good job morons.
Or maybe they are both good.

Actually, it would grow arithmetically.

So, TrackBot is saying there is basically no difference between them.

No kidding. If Rupp ran "flat out" agaisnt Ward, Ward would probably pass him at 30 km with Rupp sitting on the curb. There is a reason they run in a pack and pace eachother, the Marathon is not the 10k.

Not sure Ward would put any time into Rupp let alone 3-5 minutes but you make a good point about there post race appearence.

Rupp was at his limit during the Olympic Marathon and did fairly well for himself but Ward is clearly in another league as far as racing marathons goes.
Rupp looked spent when he crossed the line but you could tell that Ward had held back and still had gas in the tank...with that big smile and bounce in his step. In a rabbited race Ward would probably put 3-5 minutes into Rupp if they were both going all out.
Calculations please?

Rupp is probably a lot faster than Ward, but Rupp didn't run the tangents. Ward did. I've watched the 2016 Olympic marathon twice and estimate that Rupp probably ran 26.4 or 26.5. Ward probably ran 26.3. That's a HUGE difference.
