      • We just received the following email from the IAAF.

        the IAAF wrote:
        London 2012 Olympic Games women’s pole vault champion Jenn Suhr added a centimetre to her own world indoor record * when she cleared 5.03m at the Golden Eagle Multi and Invitational in Brockport, New York state, on Saturday (30).

        Her previous world indoor record of 5.02m came in Albuquerque on 2 March, 2013.

        * Subject to the usual ratification conditions

        The meet was so low key, they didn't collect entry fees unless you showed up. If you did, you got a discount.

        The meet was so low key, the football team walked several huge of parents and potential (d3) recruits through the track meet to show them the facility.

        The meet was so low key, they didn't even open the concession stand immediately next to the track (for a 9-5meet!). I saw Jenn buy a gatorade from a vending machine.

        The meet was so low key, they had the standards wrong for one of her WR attempts, so she took four jumps.

        And she breaks the world record. What?

        It wasn't the most competitive meet (many teams took athletes out to Boston instead) but it wasn't exactly low key either. There were 18 teams competing including a top 10 nationally ranked DIII team and distance-heavy DI in the mix. The real appeal though was the facility. Jenn has jumped there before as well. I'd venture that it's the nicest flat track facility in the northeast, and that's why she jumped her world record there.

        Thanks! This metric stuff means nothing to me except for racing 5ks, 10ks, etc. Remember, until the NFL and NBA starts measuring vertical jumps in centimeters, stick to feet and inches for us Americans.

      • Still a ways to go to get to the 85% equivalent performance for men.
        About 5.24 to equal men's WR, but women are finally catching up in the discipline

        If there were a lot of people measuring the bar, how did she get 4 attempts at the record height (supposedly for a mis-measured bar)?

        Another one Suhr's athletes got four attempts at their best height also.
