Um, elfie rupp isn't marketable in any way. In fact, plenty of people will never buy nike because they hate rupp so much.

rupp is goofy looking, stupid as stone and has the personality of a cabbage. In addition, he is a cheating punkassbitch doper. How, in any way, is this eugene clown kollege dropout marketable? nike just doesn't put his ugly mug in their ads.

Education. No one has a right to a decent education either.

Just a mistake during entry process by coach/athlete/Lawi.

Not a marketing thing, no. "Global Sports" is Jos Hermens' firm. That must have been the name they used in setting up their Direct Athletics account. Nothing more than that.

Aston Jordan rsults under his management "global sports." Don't know if that was a marketing thing for global or what. A couple other athletes were similarly listed.
I'm not saying he isn't sponsored by nike, but searching for lawi in google images gives you a lot of images with him in AZ gear. That just tells you that AZ is sponsored by nike.

Lalang is sponsored by Nike. Just search "Lawi Lalang" in Google images.
You're right, in no way is a white guy beating Africans in distance running marketable to white distance runners....oh wait, it is? More so than another faceless African? Who would have thought..

You don't really give any support as to why Rupp is marketable, just why others aren't. He's fast? Well, when Rupp signed his pro contract he was not as fast/successful as Lawi, nor even close. It is, as others have mentioned, because Rupp is a whitey from here in the USA, and guys like Dial it up can't tell Lawi Lalang from Boaz Lalang because they don't know much about the sport.

He's as tangible of a product for marketing to HS distance runners as you can get right now. Meb's 40, not-american-born, and hitting the thon. Ritz is injured and trying to run on the roads. Webb is Tri-sezual. Mo is brit-tish. Leo is from south of the border. Rupp is your answer.
I cooled down with Boaz at Drake in 2010 so I'm quite certain I could tell him apart from Lawi. Same reason you could tell the fat guy apart from the fat mom at the local 5k that you've run. That being said none of it has any bearing on my point that Rupp is much more marketable than Lawi to Nike's target market.
