Great article on Van Voorhis, but Byrne sounds like a real tool. It's one thing for a coach to set the bar high, assign challenges and be demanding, but Byrne comes off like he's trying to be the Bobby Knight of cross country.
That crack about lollipops and Little League was completely condescending, especially since Byrne had misled Van Voorhis regarding what he needed to do as a prospective walk-on.
