Now, I'm not expert on this running deal, but I would say I know a little bit. This Steve guy is obviously a talented runner. I would argue that any runner who runs under 4:15 in high school is talented and this guy ran an unbelievable 4:01. No matter how you cut it, the kid has a bright future. Also, regardless of what anyone says, running in college takes some time to adjust to for some people. You are in a completely different environment, running with kids who actually provide some competition, etc... I know a lot of folks on this board just hate to get a rise out of other people, but you can't even begin to bash this fellow. He is good, XC rookie year don't mean shit, if you do well, good for you, if not, it's not the end of the world. He'll be good, let's not put the pressure of saying "Magness is the next standout miler for the U.S." though. He may be, he may not be, either way, he'll be damn good as he matures and gets older.
