I read for the first time posts of Letsrun in Bruxelles, the days before the meeting, where there is a big room with 4 computers connected with internet. Casually, I read the discussion regarding Bernard Lagat, and I was disappointed reading of suspects about all Africans. Knowing them very well, I decided to write (and someone thought that I could be a Kenyan hidding back an Italian name...).
For me is not easy to write in English, as my language is not very good, but I hope that is possible to understand it. What is moving me is the passion for athletics, for coaching, for having relations with my athletes. Without a personal relation of friendship, I'm not able to coach well an athlete. The most important work is to remove from the mind of the athletes their fright about volume, intensity, fatigue. Task of a coach is to solve problems when there are, not to create problems when there aren't. So, from African Athletes I learnt to be simple and linear in my programs, for having a direct focus. I explain to the athletes what is the goal, and I want that they understand the mean of everything. Only thru a personal choice is possible to use the maximal concentration, and this is the way for improving in self confidence becoming more sure of yourself. Before every race, I explain everything about the characteristics of other runners, planning the tactic in order to win or to obtain the best performance. After the race, I analyze what happened, explaining mistakes and asking about their sensations. In this way we can grow together, and the experience is without end.
