Edward Cheserek has never lost at an NCAA championship, but if the frosh phenom wants two more NCAA titles, he will have to take down two titans in Kennedy Kithuka and the fastest man in NCAA history, Lawi Lalang.
Kennedy Kithuka won the 10,000 in 29:05 just ahead of Edward Cheserek.
Lawi Lalang doubling up 1500/5K while Edward Cheserek will be doing the 5K/10K as will Kennedy Kithuka and OSU's 27:36-man Shadrack Kipchirchir.
It was a crazy week as Emma Coburn got a huge DL win, Courtney Okolo set the NCAA 400m record but may not be the best 400m runner on her team, Kennedy Kithuka and Erin Finn dominated, Trayvon Bromell ran 9.77 and Nick Arciniaga ran in a spiderman suit.
Mexico's Juan Luis Barrios was the winner of the 2014 Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational 10,000 in 27:34.40 as Cam Levins was second in 27:36.00. Oklahoma State's Shadrack Kipchirchir set a collegiate lead at 27:36.79 for 5th beating out Texas Tech's Kennedy Kithuka (27:41.73). Bobby Curtis was the top American in 7th with 27:46.30.
Kithuka didn't have indoor eligibility but begins his outdoor season this week with one goal in mind - bringing the Big 12 team title home when Tech hosts in May. He says he's looking ahead not back. "I should not look back at what happened in cross country."
Bates won a close race over Aisling Cuffe while Kithuka dominated his race by 33 seconds.
