1:05:09 is her current record.
Misikir Demissie (a 2:25 marathoner is a new US citizen) ran 1:13 here, but her coach says of the Trials, "she can run 2:25."
Good for them. World Championships should not pay appearance fees.
Last year, her #1 goal was the 13.1 WR with London Maratho 2nd. This year, the goal was the 15km WR but London is the goal as she needs to figure out if she should focus on marathon or 10,000 for 2016.
That's 4:58 pace. She broke her own record from a year ago by 3 seconds. An amazing run as the course has turns and no other woman has come within 41 seconds on a legit course.
IAAF recap of men's race.
Geoffrey Kipsang is a name you had better remember. The 2011 World XC junior champ got his first global senior title with an impressive 59:07 win without a rabbit as he led 30,000 runners to the finishline in the first time ever the World Half Marathon Champs were a mass participation race. Gladys Cherono led a Kenyan sweep on the women's side. More coming from Copenhagen.
The dog got free from his owners and ran the half-marathon in 2:15, even receiving a finisher’s medal.
Another top contender is 60:56 half-marathoner Emmanuel Bett. Commonwealth marathon champ Irene Jerotich leads the women’s field. British elites include Chris Thompson, Andy Lemoncello and Steph Twell. *Full Elite Field
