US's 2:28 marathoner Annie Bersagel, was a surprise 3rd place.
Between working full-time as a lawyer and coming back from knee surgery this past summer, Bersagel has had a unique path to the Trials. She shares a low point was when she was coming back from surgery and could only run 1-minute intervals with a 4-minute walk break and a jogger passed her as she stopped saying, "Come on, you can do it, keep going."

She had knee surgery in June and was on crutches for 6-weeks, so has had to substitute with a lot of cross training in her builup for the Trials.
The elite relay race will have a man and woman each run 13.1. Others racing include Abdi Abdirahman, Annie Bersagel, Sam Chelanga, Molly Huddle, Desi Linden, Luke Puskedra, Becky Wade, Jared Ward, Meb Keflezighi and Deena Kastor.
Men will hand off to women with each runner doing 13.1. Field also includes Deena Kastor, Abdi Abdirahman, Annie Bersagel, Luke Puskedra, Becky Wade and Jared Ward.
