Also in the field are Fernando Cabada and Brett Gotcher. Abdi just came back from Ethiopia (his first visit to Africa since he left at age-5). There he trained with Mo Farah and says, “It was mind blowing to see the speed and intensity and mileage that Mo did there in Ethiopia. My training was wonderful, too. It was the first time I had been back to Africa since leaving at age five. The first couple weeks were tough, because I got sick, but the last three weeks things came along very well. Mo always said to come train with him when he went to Kenya, and this year I said I’d go. So when he called in January, and said, ‘let’s go to Ethiopia,’ I was there.”
Abdi is only the 2nd American men's distance runner to compete in four Olympics.
Also in the field are Chris Solinsky and Abdi Abdirahman. The women are led by Molly Huddle who faces Mary Wacera, Gemma Steel, Betsy Saina, Jordan Hasay and more.
