The Olympic action got started this morning and it was full of drama as the US, Kenyan and Ethiopian champs in the men's steeple all failed to make the final. Benard Keter will be the only American in Monday’s steeple final but Canada has two guys in it. In the sprints, we learned the Tokyo track is FAST as in the women’s 100, 6 women broke 11, led by Marie Josee Ta Lou’s 10.78 African record.

Stars are everywhere (Karsten Warholm, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Trayvon Bromell...the list goes on). You need to watch this meet.

And Benard Keter just beat McGorty.

At the 1995 Weltklasse Zürich meet, Moses Kiptanui became the first man under 8:00 in the steeplechase and Haile Gebrselassie took over 10 seconds off the 5,000m world record. It was the Golden Age of one of Europe's finest meets. A quarter century later, those who were there reflect on the famous night.

One week before the 2003 Worlds, the planet's best runner, Stephen Cherono, changed his name to Saif Saaeed Shaheen and switched nationality from Kenya to Qatar. The steeplechase final pit Shaheen against his brother Abraham (still angry over the move) and a young Ezekiel Kemboi and culminated with a thrilling home-straight duel.
