The fantasy matchup in the men's 1500 (five Paris Olympic medalists across the 800/1500) delivered a thriller as Olympic 800 champ Wanyonyi (3:35.18) used a 51.58 last lap to beat Yared Nuguse, Cole Hocker, and Josh Kerr.

There were some entertaining races in Kingston, with Grant Fisher winning an extremely tactical 5,000 and Hiltz (1:58.23) holding off Diribe Welteji in the 800. But the big stadium was largely empty on Friday night.

How to watch 2025 Grand Slam Track Kingston.

GST may have an innovative format and lots of $$ but it appears nothing can solve track and field's problem of 1) it's hard to keep stars healthy and 2) force athletes to compete where you want them to compete. Cooper Teare, Dylan Jacobs and Heather MacLean will be there but 4 of the biggest names in Jamaican sprinting will not be - Kishane Thompson, Shericka Jackson, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Elaine Thompson-Herah. Nor will arguably the 4 biggest names in all of the short sprints - Noah Lyles, Letsile Tebogo, Julien Alfred, and Sha'Carri Richardson.
