McDonnell won 40 NCAA titles, 6 triple crowns, and 12 straight indoor titles at Arkansas.

The women's steeple may be the best in NCAA history. And plenty of studs will be doubling back in the 5,000, which makes it one of the most compelling races of the meet.

No man has ever won the 1,500 and 5,000 at the same NCAA meet. Can Cole Hocker make history? Hocker, Conner Mantz, and Wesley Kiptoo have all already won NCAA titles in 2021 and will look to burnish their legacies by adding more in Eugene. One event guaranteed to have a new champ is the men's steeple, which is completely wide open.

Miller of Baylor and Hurta of Colorado were both dominant winners at NCAA Indoors and have looked great this outdoor season, but they face plenty of competition - 11 women in the NCAA field have broken 2:02 this year and six have broken 4:10.

The men's 800 is wide-open, with 24-year-old USC senior Isaiah Jewett and 19-year-old Texas A&M freshman Brandon Miller among the top contenders. Aside from Hocker & Nuguse, the men's 1,500 also features Alabama sensation Eliud Kipsang and a total of 12 sub-3:38 guys.
