800 LRC Texas A&M’s Jazmine Fray Wins Coveted 1st NCAA Title In Her Last Race, Goes Wire-To-Wire And Wins 800 In 2:01:31 After many disappointing performances at NCAAs, the NCAA indoor record holder finally got it all right as a senior.

5,000 LRC Colorado’s Dani Jones Kicks To Another NCAA Title, Wins 5,000 In 15:50.64 Dani Jones has only been running on land since mid-April. That proved to be enough for another NCAA title tonight in Austin.

News From The IAAF – Name Change/Russia Still Banned

IAAF Unveils New Name And Logo; Will Now Be Known As “World Athletics” IAAF CEO Jon Ridgeon: “The IAAF name has been in existence for over 100 years, but it has little understanding or relevance to those outside of athletics. The new identity creates a symbol that can stand alone and work with partners and events.”
IAAF Extends Russian Suspension For The 11th Time Following Allegations Of Forged Documents And Suspended Coaches Remaining Active Russia has made progress as they paid the IAAF the $3.2 million cost of the Russian investigation and the Moscow lab data is being analyzed, but these other corruption issues hurt them. They could still have a chance to be reinstated before Worlds in September. *BBC Article
IAAF Council Approves Out-Of-Competition Drug Testing Funding For Road Races The IAAF is looking to improve the amount of testing after it was shown that in 2018, 74% of IAAF Gold Label road race podium finishers were not including in any out-of-competition testing pools.
IAAF Council Notes On Eugene 2021 Review From Seb Coe: “The athletes will be a lot closer to the fans and the fans to the athletes, which will create a really unique atmosphere. There are however some operational aspects that we need to be creative about. These will be a very different type of championships but that in essence is a good thing.”

Oregon Project’s Konstanze Klosterhalfen Wins Portland Track Festival 1,500m In 4:03.30 She was doubling back less than an hour after running a 2:04.18 in the 800. Craig Engels ran a 3:35.32 PR in the men’s race, just missing the 3:35.00 Olympic standard. Shannon Rowbury opened her outdoor season by winning the 5,000m in 15:38.75 and Former NCAA champ Josh Kerr took the 800 in 1:46.06. *Results
Amos Bartelsmeyer (3:51.76) And Therese Haiss (4:29) Win Virginia Mason Memorial Downtown Yakima Mile Bartelsmeyer, a German runner who is a volunteer assistant at UW and coached by Andy Powell, actually ran the Washington state soil record in a deep race where the top 4 all broke 3:55. Haiss beat out Heather Kampf by one second.

1,500 LRC Notre Dame’s Yared Nuguse Snatches NCAA Men’s 1,500 Title At Line From Michigan State’s Justine Kiprotich The men’s 1,500 was decided by three one-thousandths of a second.

Steeple LRC Steven Fahy Of Stanford Survives Fall, Wins Men’s Steeplechase Final At 2019 NCAA Championships The final 30 seconds of the men’s steeplechase were wild as both leaders went down.

5k LRC Morgan McDonald Outkicks Grant Fisher (Again) To Win Men’s 5,000 Title At 2019 NCAA Outdoors McDonald closed in 52.91 seconds, truly world-class stuff, to become the sixth man to win an NCAA XC, indoor and outdoor title in the same academic year.

LRC 2019 NCAA Women’s Distance Prelims: NCAA Champs Danae Rivers & Karisa Nelson Go Home; Allie O Impresses Nelson has battled health issues this spring, while Rivers ran a tactically poor race and wound up boxed in with nowhere to go in the home straight. Ostrander’s 9:44 was the fastest time ever in an NCAA prelim.

Sunday:Sifan Hassan Using “Wavelight Tech” To Try To Break Her Own European 5,000m Record (14:22.34) At The FBK Games In Hengelo Instead of pacemakers, “wavelight technology” will be used to help the athletes follow the desired target pace. Rome DL winner and 12:52 man Telahun Haile Bekele will race the 5,000m again here. Dafne Schippers leads sprint action in the 100m.
Saturday:Spain’s Luis-Alberto Hernando And Netherlands’ Ragna Debats Are Back To Defend Their Titles At The World Trail Running Champs Apparently the 44k race is the shortest the championship has been in years.

LRC Mondo Duplantis Is BEATEN At 2019 NCAA Outdoor Track And Field Champs, Chris Nilsen Wins By Breaking His Own Meet Record LSU’s Duplantis, the #2 outdoor jumper of all time and 2019 world leader at 6.00m, was beaten as South Dakota’s Nilsen got PRs at 5.90 and 5.95 to score the upset – and break his own meet record.
