Where Your Dreams Become Reality

Quote of the Day:
"God put something in him he didn't put in regular people.
He was built to run. He eats, drinks and sleeps running. He always does more than he is asked to do and I have to watch him to make sure he doesn't do too much. He is 100 percent dedicated, both on and off the field."

- Rend Lake College coach Brent McLain talking about his protege Boaz Lalang. The Kenyan is setting the US on fire this spring and is going to give a crack at the world junior record in the 800 this weekend in Oregon. Certainly ambitious, but after
hearing about this guys race in Tennessee it wouldn't surprise us if he soon joins David Rudisha and Abubaker Kaki and Abel Kiprop as a 4th young mid-d phenom. As good as he is on the track, Lalang is a total class act off of it and this article should make everyone who thinks foreigners shouldn't get scholarships think again.

Doha Preview: Allyson Felix 100-400 Double Attempt, Wariner vs Merritt at 200, Great Men's 800, Strong 3k

A Super Grand Prix means one thing, a lot of money to attract top athletes. Asafa Powell is out with an injury but there are a lot of interesting matchups. Allyson Felix will be attempting the 100-400 double before jetting back for her USC graduation. The highlight in our book is the men's 800 where teen sensation and World Indoor champ Abubaker Kaki will take on World Champ Alfred Kirwa Yego and the always consistent Wilfred Bungei. Plus Jeremy Wariner and LaShawn Merrit in the 200, Janeth Kepkosgei in the 1500, and more. The IAAF preview doesn't mention Wariner and Merritt in the 200, but the other article below does.

LRC The Week That Was Once again we go behind the scenes and give you the scoop on last week's action. We officially get the David Rudisha bandwagon rolling, praise the amazing Günther Weidlinger, give a big thumbs up to Emily Brown and Scotty Bauhs and a big thumbs down to US 1,500 runners, while praising the ageless Kevin Sullivan. And our anti-drug talk reaches an all-time high (or low) as instead of doping we skip to the heavy stuff and talk about heroin.

More Usain Bolt News
Wednesday's Quote of the Day: "The idea was to force him to go in the direction of the 400.. I told him last year that if he broke the Jamaican record in the 200, 19.8 something, I would allow him to run one 100. He broke the record (running 19.75 seconds) and he said: 'You've got to keep your promise'."

*Bolt's Coach Needed Convincing To Let Usain Bolt Run 100 Meters His coach always wanted to move Bolt, who ran 45.35 for 400 at age 16 towards the 400, and only let him run a 100 if he broke the Jamaican 200 meter record.
*Jamaican Old Sprint Stars Donald Quarrie and Raymond Stewart Praise Bolt's 9.76 Quarrie still thinks Bolt could be a 400 meter star.

Antonio Pettigrew, Dennis Mitchell Listed in Witness List as Drug Cheats
A lot of people will go down if the Trevor Graham case goes to trial next month. Remember when 2 years ago Letsrun.com first pointed out Mitchell was coaching the US team in the US vs UK meet. Then the British press picked up on it,
and then Mitchell's name disappeared from the USATF website. Then USATF a week later tried to say with a straight face that the Dennis Mitchell, was the Akron coach, not the drug cheat. Heads should have rolled for that one but it shows how some in USATF work. If anyone would like to give us an update on USATF shenanigans feel free to email us. The old guard at USATF of course accepted Mitchell's five beers and lots of sex with his wife excuse, and the new guard felt it was ok to try and cover up the fact he was coaching a team. While we're at it, it's time for Sandra Farmer-Patrick to go.
