Ethiopian Steeplechaser Robe Gari Secures Osaka Place in Brazzaville
by: Ethiopian Athletics Federation
May 29, 2007

Ethiopian national 3000m steeplechase champion and Addis Ababa stadium record holder Roba Gari continued his outstanding season by dipping under the IAAF qualifying A standard for 11th IAAF World Championships in Osaka, Japan at the CAA Grand Prix in Brazzaville, Congo on Sunday.

The Defence club runner, who had clocked 8:31 for victory in Herrera, Spain last weekend, got the better of Kenyan former world and Olympic champion Reuben Kosgei in the Congolese capital to win the race in 8:15.05, more than ten seconds better than the qualifying A standard for Osaka.

Gari is now an undefeated in five consecutive races following victories in the All-Ethiopian Games, the Addis Ababa Municipal Championships, the Ethiopian Athletics Championships, and two international meets in Herrera, Spain and Brazzaville.
