Bernard Lagat Becomes a Father By David Monti (c) 2006 Race Results Weekly, all rights reserved January 13, 2006 Bernard Lagat and his wife Gladys became parents for the first time yesterday, announcing the birth of a baby boy, Miika Kimutai Lagat. Born in Tucson, Ariz., where the couple lives, Miika was 8 pounds 4 oz. (3.86 kg) and was 20 inches long (51 cm). "The name Miika is Finnish," said James Templeton, Lagat's manager in an e-mail message to friends. "Kip says Gladys has always liked Finnish names." Lagat returns to competition at the 99th Millrose Games on Feb. 3 where he will face Kenenisa Bekele in the Wanamaker mile.
