# 1 Celedonio RODRIGUEZ, 25, USA (Alamosa, CO)  Half PR: 1:04:09 (B.A.A. Half, 2005)

B.A.A. Half Marathon History: 1st in 2005 (1:04:09)

  • Last year’s champion, he stole the race by making an early break.
  • Became an American citizen two weeks prior to winning here last year.
  • Looks forward to making his marathon debut in the near future.
 

# 2 Samuel NDEREBA, 29, KEN     Half PR: 1:01:50 (Philadelphia, 2006)

B.A.A. Half Marathon History: 6th in 2004 (1:04:02); 2nd in 2005 (1:04:21)

  • Runner-up last year, he has the fastest half marathon time in the field.
  • Younger brother of 4-time Boston Marathon champion Catherine “The Great” Ndereba.
 

# 3 Richard KIPLAGAT, 25, KEN     Half PR: half marathon debut

B.A.A. Half Marathon History: debut

  • A two-time NCAA Division I runner-up at Iona College.
  • Made his professional road racing debut last month in Providence at the Downtown 5k, winning in a sprint.
  • Recently moved to Boulder, Colorado.
 

# 4 Michael MISOI, KEN      Half PR: 1:03:03 (Iten, Kenya, 2006)

B.A.A. Half Marathon History: debut

  • Runner-up at this year’s Mombasa (KEN) Marathon in 2:11:08.
  • Recently joined training group coached by Uta Pippig’s former coach Dieter Hogen in Boulder, Colorado.
 

# 5 Peter GILMORE, 29, USA (San Mateo, CA)   Half PR: 1:04:32 (Houston, 2006)

B.A.A. Half Marathon History: debut

  • A top 10 finisher at the last two Boston Marathons (10th, 2005; 7th; 2006).
  • Substitute teacher in California.
  • Represented the B.A.A. at the Ohme-Hochi 30K Road Race in Japan earlier this year, placing fourth.
 

# 6 John MORTIMER, 30, USA (Waltham, MA)   Half PR: 1:07:55 (B.A.A. Half, 2003)

B.A.A. Half Marathon History: 8th in 2003 (1:07:55)

  • The cross country and track & field coach at Boston College.
  • US Trials qualifier last Olympiad.
  • A graduate of Londonderry (NH) High School and University of Michigan
  • “Mort” was New England Runner’s “Runner of the Year” for 2004.
 

# 7 Nate JENKINS, 26, USA (Lowell, MA)    Half PR: 1:03:44 (Austin, 2006)

B.A.A. Half Marathon History: 9th in 2005 (1:07:32)

  • Earlier this year, Jenkins qualified for the 2008 Olympic Team Trials in his debut marathon.
  • Ran 2:15:28 at the Austin (TX) Freescale Marathon.
  • A Umass-Lowell graduate, he was New England Runner magazine’s “Runner of the Year” for 2005.
 

# 10 Steve MEINELT, 23, USA (Washington, DC)   Half PR: half marathon debut

  • 2006 graduate of Georgetown University.
  • Native of Beverly, Massachusetts (Masconomet High School).
  • Three-time, consecutive champion of the Chilmark 5k on Martha’s Vineyard, most recently in August 2006.

B.A.A. Half Marathon History: 1st in 2001 (1:10:57); 5th in 2002 (1:12:12); 9th in 2003 (1:11:08); 20th in 2004 (1:13:31); 15th in 2005 (1st Master; 1:12:50)

  • Inaugural B.A.A. Half Marathon champion.
  • Now a masters competitor (a division which he also won last year at the B.A.A. Half).
  • One of 151 runners to have run each of the previous B.A.A. Half Marathons.
 

# 12 Eric MORSE, 41, USA (Berlin, VT)    Half PR: 1:03:50 (est. based on 20K time)

B.A.A. Half Marathon History: 17th in 2005 (2nd Master; 1:13:19)

  • Last year's runner-up in the masters division at the B.A.A. Half.
  • Has finished runner-up at the Mt. Washington Road Race on three occasions.
  • USATF “National Mountain Runner of the Year” in 2001
  • Has run 1:00:48 at the New Haven 20K (National Championship).
 

# 13 Oscar GONZALEZ-BARRETO, 42, USA (New Haven, CT) Half Masters Division PR: 1:08:31

B.A.A. Half Marathon History: debut

  • Current year’s masters division champion at Providence’s Downtown 5K.
  • In 2005, he placed fourth overall at the New Bedford Half Marathon (1:08:31).
  • Finished 49th overall at last year’s ING New York City Marathon (2:46:00).
 

# 14 Robert CANNON, 23, USA (Toms River, NJ)   Half PR: 1:08:59 (New York, 2006)

B.A.A. Half Marathon History: debut

  • Graduate of Haverford College (2006), and has turned his focus to the roads.
  • Placed 14th in the NYC Half Marathon with a time of 1:08:59.

# F1 Marie DAVENPORT, 31, IRL (Guilford, CT)   Half PR: 1:10:57 (B.A.A. Half, 2003)

B.A.A. Half Marathon History: 1st in 2003 (1:10:57 Course Record)

  • The former Marie McMahon, Davenport holds the course record at the B.A.A. Half Marathon.
  • Standout performer while at Providence College.
  • Last fall, Davenport set a marathon PR of 2:33:57 at the ING New York City Marathon.
  • Twice represented Ireland at the Olympics Games (5,000m, 1996; and placed 14th at 10,000m in 2004).
 

# F2 Josephine DEEMAY, 20, TAN     Half PR: 1:12:34 (Le Lion, France, 2004)

B.A.A. Half Marathon History: debut

  • At the age of 19, placed fifth in the Commonwealth Games marathon with a time of 2:36:27.
  • Now only 20 years old, this will be her first appearance in the B.A.A. Half Marathon.
  • On her way to Boulder, Colorado for an extended period of training with international coach Dieter Hogen.
 

# F3 Anne KUGLER, 38, USA (New York, NY)   Half PR: 1:15:54 (New York, 2005)

Personal Best: 1:15:54 (Grete's Great Gallop Half Marathon, 2005)

B.A.A. Half Marathon History: debut

  • After competing in high school and college, Anne Kugler took more than a decade off from racing.
  • In 2005 she won Grete's Great Gallop Half Marathon (1:15:54) followed shortly by a 12th-place finish at the Tufts 10K (34:19)--both races yielding personal bests.
  • Ended last year with a PR at the ING New York City Marathon, finishing in 2:43:14.
  • New York Road Runners named her as NYRR Club Night Runner of the Year in 2005.
 

# F4 Kasie ENMAN, 27, USA (Huntington, VT)   Half PR: 1:17:40 (New Bedford, 2006)

B.A.A. Half Marathon History: debut

  • A distance star at Division III Middlebury College, she was a cross country All-American, placing 13th in the nation in 2000.
  • In March 2006, she ran a 1:17:40 half marathon PR.
  • In June 2006, qualified for 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials--Women's Marathon (2:44:06; Grandma's Marathon).
 

# F5 Kara RYCZEK, 31, USA (Waltham, MA)   Half PR: 1:23:30 (B.A.A. Half, 2005)

B.A.A. Half Marathon History: 10th in 2005 (1:23:30)

  • Began running competitively just over a year ago.
  • Her 10th-place finish at last year's B.A.A. Half Marathon, in 1:23:30, was a personal best for the distance.
  • Ran a 3:04:36 PR in the 2006 Boston Marathon.
 

# F6 Carly GRAYTOCK, 28, USA (Cambridge, MA)   Half PR: 1:16:42 (Dallas, 2004)

B.A.A. Half Marathon History: 2nd in 2001 (1:21:35)

  • Runner-up in the inaugural B.A.A. Half Marathon, Carly Graytock returns, looking to improve on that race and to help the B.A.A. Running Club add to its string of five consecutive team titles.
  • A graduate of Bucknell University, she has posted a half marathon PR of 1:16:42, and has twice placed in the top 20 in the Boston Marathon: (14th place; 2:44:02 in 2005; and 18th place; 2:43:19 in 2006).
  • This year’s Boston Marathon performance qualified her for the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials-Women's Marathon, which will be held in Boston.
  • Graytock also qualified for the 2004 Olympic Team Trials-Women's Marathon.

 

# F7 Firaya SULTANOVA-ZHDANOVA, 45, RUS   Half PR: 1:09:08 (Chelyabinsk, 1994)

B.A.A. Half Marathon History: 3rd in 2005 (1st Master; 1:15:19)

  • Masters Division course record holder at the Boston Marathon (2:27:58; fifth place overall; 2002).
  • Defending masters division champion at the B.A.A. Half (third place overall; 2005).
  • In 2006, she collected two half marathon victories (Naples, Florida and Houston, Texas).
  • Also in ‘06, she captured two masters titles at Peachtree (Atlanta) 10K and Utica (New York) Boilermaker 15K.
  • Has personal best of 2:27:05 for the marathon.
 

# F8 Janelle KRAUS, 28, USA (Pawtucket, RI)   Half PR: debut

B.A.A. Half Marathon History: debut

  • As a student-athlete at Wake Forest University, Kraus was a four-time NCAA Division I All-American.
  • In 2004 she ran a marathon best of 2:40:06 to place eighth in the Twin Cities Marathon.
  • A high school teacher at Mount St. Charles Academy in Rhode Island.
  • Trains under coach Ray Treacy (Providence College coach and current coach of Marie Davenport, B.A.A. Half Marathon entrant and course record-holder).
 

# F9 Kimberly NOLAN, 24, USA (Watertown, MA)   Half PR: 1:23:14 (B.A.A. Half, 2005)

B.A.A. Half Marathon History: 9th in 2005 (1:23:14)

  • A four-time competitor in the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships for Stonehill College (Class of ’04).
  • In 2005, ran 1:23:14 for ninth-place finish in the B.A.A. Half Marathon.
  • Followed-up her B.A.A. Half performance last year by running 2:56:21 (11th-place) at the Philadelphia Marathon.
 

# F10 Sarah NIXON, 42, USA (Medfield, MA)    Half PR: 1:19:00 (Newport, RI, 1999)

B.A.A. Half Marathon History: 1st in 2001 (1:21:16); 1st in 2002 (1:22:34); 9th in 2003 (1:26:02); 9th in 2004 (4th Master; 1:26:22); 12th in 2005 (4th Master; 1:24:50)

  • Nixon is the only two-time open champion of the B.A.A. Half Marathon (2001, 2002), male or female.
  • This year, Nixon will be one of the top contenders in the Masters Division.
  • One of 151 runners to have run each of the previous B.A.A. Half Marathons.
