Professional Field for This Weekend's 3m Half Marathon Announced By David Monti (c) 2006 Race Results Weekly, all rights reserved January 24, 2005 The 3M Half-Marathon, scheduled for this Sunday in Austin, Tex., is held on one of the fastest certified courses in America, dropping 114 meters from start to finish. The course records of 1:01:16 by Andres Espinosa of Mexico (1999), and 1:09:52 by Sylvia Mosqueda of Los Angeles, Calif. (2004), bear this out. Mosqueda, who turns 40 in April, plans to be on the starting line on Sunday and is expected to face defending champion, Angelica Sánchez of Mexico (PB of 1:13:26), Kang Soon-Duk of Korea (10,000m PB of 33:55.84) and Alemtsehay Misganaw of Ethiopia (5-K PB of 16:13) amongst others. On the men's side, a solid field of mostly African men has been assembled. Alene Emere Reta of Ethiopia, with a 1:01:46 career best time, is the strongest athlete entered. But he'll be up against two tough Kenyan rivals in Reuben Cheruiyot (1:02:29 PB) and Sammy Nyamongo (5000m PB of 13:34.34). For the home country Jim Jurcevich, Teddy Mitchell and Christopher England are the leading entrants. The event offers a total prize money purse of $13,350 with $1200 going to the winner.
