BIG DAY FOR FAST WOMEN'S 5-K'S

It was a big day for fast 5-K road races for women.

First, in the Netherlands Lornah Kiplagat ran a solo 14:47 at the Parelloop in Brunssum, well below Paula Radcliffe's 14:51 set in London's Hyde Park last September.  Then later in the day, thousands of miles west in Carlsbad, Calif., Isabella Ochichi of Kenya ran a 14:53.

Just who has the world's fastest time is the subject of some debate, however.  The course on which Radcliffe set here time is scheduled for remeasurement in April, while the Brunssum course is new and, at least at this time, it's certification is unknown to RRW.  The Carlsbad course is USATF certified and the race was attended by top USATF road racing official, Basil Honikman.  The Carlsbad post-race press release was entitled, "Ochichi Sets World 5K Record at Carlsbad."

Stay tuned.
