Former Boston Marathon champ Wesley Korir was only 7th in 2:14:18.

Good news, Galen Rupp and US women's marathon fans - it just got a lot easier to medal in Rio as Athletics Kenya picked a 2:24 woman and a man who is about to celebrate the 2-year anniversary of his last sub-2:10 clocking (May 25th) to the Olympic team. Stars like Edna Kiplagat and Mary Keitany will be sitting at home. Updated with new stats for Dickson Chumba and Bernard Kipyego and the fact that Wilson Kipsang didn't want to go to Rio.

The poor 22-year-old turned heads and caught the attention of former Boston champ Wesley Korir when he showed up at a local 3K and won running barefoot. Korir took him in and arranged for him to train with Wilson Kipsang. Korir thinks he can run 2:06-2:08.

Korir says the risk/reward ratio for doping needs to be changed in Kenya and has asked WADA for special permission to allow Kenya to criminalize doping (the WADA code says countries can't impose additional penalties on top of those established by WADA).

With six guys who have run under 2:05 (more than London), this field is impressively deep. Desisa is a slight favorite but '15 runner-up/Worlds silver medallist Yemane Tsegay, '15 3rd placer Wilson Chebet and Chicago runner-up Sammy Kitwara (2:04:28 pb) are among the many guys looking to take him down. What role, if any, will the meldonium ban play?

2014 2nd and 3rd placers Sammy Kitwara and Dickson Chumba - both of whom set personal bests here a year ago - will be in the field to tackle Tokyo champ Endeshaw Negesse, Rotterdam champ Abera Kuma and '12 Boston champ Wesley Korir. The U.S. pros are led by 2:11 man Fernando Cabada and former Oregon star Luke Puskedra (61:36 half PR) as the headliners.

Desisa, who won just before the bombings two years ago, will finally get to properly celebrate a Boston victory after he kicked away from Yemane Tsegay after Dathan Ritzenhein led for much of the race and Meb Keflezighi looked tremendous before vomiting.

2013 champ Lelisa Desisa and former world record holder Patrick Makau (2:03:38 PR) are the headliners, but there's depth behind them with five sub-2:05 men overall and five more sub-2:07 + HM world record holder Zersenay Tadese (58:23).

The pro fields for the 2015 Boston Marathon were announced today and previously announced Americans Meb Keflezighi and Shalane Flanagan will have their hands fulls.

The American field features 13:18/27:24 man Bobby Curtis (2:13:24 pb), the red-hot Christo Landry (U.S. 10k road champ) but the biggest talker of all has been Matt Llano who is dreaming of a 2:08 in his debut.

2:016:13-man Korir faces 2:04:38 2012 Rotterdam champ Yemane Tsegay, Bazu Worku (2:05:25), Mulugeta Wami (2:07:11) and Canadian Eric Gillis (2:11:29). 2:23:39 woman Ehitu Kiros leads the women's field against Etalemahu Kidane (2:25:49) and Agnes Kiprop (2:23:54).
