Cheserek ran 13:29 tying the road WR (the IAAF only started recognizing the 5000 road record in 2017). In the women's race, Cheserek's girlfriend and NCAA 10,000 champ Lokedi made her pro debut with a 15:48 victory.

Genzebe Dibaba (14:48) And Lawi Lalang (13:32) Take Home Titles At 2015 Carlsbad 5,000

Dibaba missed out on the world record (14:46) but was still very impressive, winning by 25 seconds. Lalang beat fellow Kenyan Wilson Too (13:35) for the men's title, while Bernard Lagat was third in a world masters best of 13:40.

Gebremeskel turned the tables on Lagat from World Indoors but Lagat left with a nice consolation prize. In the women's race, no one came close to Brenda Martinez as the top American - not Jordan Hasay or Gabriele Grunewald.
