Reigning champ Edward Cheserek leads the men's field while the women have Olympians Kim Conley and Dom Scott.

Cheserek ran 13:29 tying the road WR (the IAAF only started recognizing the 5000 road record in 2017). In the women's race, Cheserek's girlfriend and NCAA 10,000 champ Lokedi made her pro debut with a 15:48 victory.

Carlsbad is a historically fast 5k, so it'll be interesting to see what kind of time Cheserek can put down.

The women's race has GB's Emelia Gorecka (15:07 PB) and the men are lead by Swedish 1500 NR holder Kalle Berglund and Denmark 7-time national champ Nick Jensen.

Rowbury faces Viola Lagat, former All-American Dominque Scott and Neely Gracey while the men's race has 2012 Olympic silver medalist Dejen Gebremeskel, Will Leer, GB's Andy Vernon and Aussie Collis Birmingham.

Lagat finished 4th overall in 13:38, 1-second ahead of Hassan Mead. Defar won comfortably by 9-seconds while Jen Rhines was the first American woman in 6th (15:53). *Results

Dibaba missed out on the world record (14:46) but was still very impressive, winning by 25 seconds. Lalang beat fellow Kenyan Wilson Too (13:35) for the men's title, while Bernard Lagat was third in a world masters best of 13:40.

Carlsbad is home to 45 of the fastest 50 men's 5K road times in history and is hoping for a women's world record in its 30th edition on Sunday. Gebremeskel turned the tables on Lagat from World Indoors but Lagat left with a nice consolation prize. In the women's race, no one came close to Brenda Martinez as the top American - not Jordan Hasay or Gabriele Grunewald.
