Sometimes the marathon field at worlds is watered down but certianly not this year as the Duba, London and Boston champs are all racing.

The Colorado men and women shined brightly in different ways at Pac 12s, so did two American marathoners in Frankfurt, plus a look at Rita Jeptoo's doping suspension and the amount of foreign studs in NCAA xc.

Meb, Ritz and Rupp will get plenty of attention this week, so we wanted to start our previews by focusing on the men who have a shot at the Olympic team if any of the Big 3 falter. In 2012, we only had a list of 6 outside of the eventual top 4. This year, the list is 20 deep.

Linden went into depth about her Trials buildup and the trickiest parts of the LA course, while Hanson discussed Linden and Bobby Curtis before discounting Galen Rupp's chances (should he elect to run) and reminding people why they shouldn't underestimate Jake Riley.

Guiyang, China -- We caught up with American Bobby Curtis after he finished 37th at the 2015 IAAF World Cross Country Championships. Our interview with him is below.

 

At the "Miracle on Dirt," the USA walked away with a silver 2 years ago. They are back at World XC trying to get on the podium. We break down their chances.

Chris Derrick 3 peated as USA Champion in dominating fashion as Bobby Curtis was 2nd and Dathan Ritzenhein 3rd. Ben True, the guy who tried to stay with Derrick the longest, faded to 11th.

8 years ago, with World XC spots on the line, the action in Boulder was legendary as all of the Colorado greats - Culpepper, Goucher, Torres and Ritz - battled. What's in store in 2015? Chris Derrick goes for the three-peat but he'll have plenty of competition in the form of Ben True, Dathan Ritzenhein, Maksim Korolev, Ryan Vail and Garrett Heath.

With wins in London and NY, no one was as good as Wilson Kipsang. But where do we rank Kenenisa Bekele, Meb and others?

Bobby Curtis led the way in 2:11:20 in 9th, Jake Riley had a nice debut and Gabe Proctor turned heads by going out hard and PRing.

Eliud Kipchoge is a special marathon talent, the 2014 Chicago race up front was special as well (even if the tv coverage wasn't), Bobby Curtis had a good day but Kenenisa Bekele didn't.

Last year's Chicago race was truly special as Dennis Kimetto and Emmanuel Mutai waged an epic battle that resulted in the decimation of the course record. What will happen when Eliud Kipchoge and Kenenisa Bekele clash on Sunday?  Those two greats will be challenged by Tadese Tola (2:04:49 pb), Bernard Koech (2:04:53 pb), Sammy Kitwara (58:48 half marathon pb) and Dickson Chumba (Tokyo Marathon champ). The American field features 13:18/27:24 man Bobby Curtis (2:13:24 pb), the red-hot Christo Landry (U.S. 10k road champ) but the biggest talker of all has been Matt Llano who is dreaming of a 2:08 in his debut.

Mexico's Juan Luis Barrios was the winner of the 2014 Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational 10,000 in 27:34.40 as Cam Levins was second in 27:36.00. Oklahoma State's Shadrack Kipchirchir set a collegiate lead at 27:36.79 for 5th beating out Texas Tech's Kennedy Kithuka (27:41.73). Bobby Curtis was the top American in 7th with 27:46.30.
