2020 USA Indoors: Shelby Houlihan, Paul Chelimo Earn Dominant 3K Wins Thanks to Big Last Laps

In case you forgot who the best distance runners in the US have been over the last three years, Shelby Houlihan and Paul Chelimo offered clear reminders in the 3000-meter finals on day 1 of the 2020 USATF Indoor Championships in Albuquerque. In the women's race, Houlihan led the BTC women to 1-2-3 finish (and 5 of the top 6), and in the men's race, Chelimo led the Kenyan-Americans of Scott Simmons group to a 1-2-3 finish as well.

Distance Recap: Edward Kemboi Rides The Rail To Victory In 800, Chad Noelle Kicks Best In 1,500 And Anthony Rotich Three-Peats In Steeple

Both the 800 (1:49.26) and 1,500 (3:54.96) had incredibly slow winning times due to wind on the backstretch, but that made for thrilling theater as everyone was still in contention with 200 to go in each race. As it did last year, the steeple came down to Rotich vs. Stanley Kebenei and Rotich once again prevailed by a narrow .38 margin.

Men's Mid-D/Steeple Preview: Mac Fleet And Anthony Rotich Look To Repeat; Indoor Champ Brandon McBride Favored In 800
