Podcast: The Death of the 5,000m, New Olympic Track Qualifying Procedures, Grant Holloway Machine, NCAA Indoors, the Future of the Diamond League – LetsRun.com Track Talk

We’ve got a great podcast for you this week.

We start off by playing “Taps” for the 5,000m, which is going to disappear from the Diamond League. Will this put an end to the distance greats like Haile Gebrselassie, Mo Farah, and Tirunesh Dibaba? Then we talk about the Olympic qualifying procedures for track and the marathon. We then take a slight detour to the crazy college admissions scandal before actually discussing the NCAA indoor meet, where Grant Holloway put on a show, as did Morgan McDonald and the Aussies and Kiwis in general. We’ve got some audio of Holloway being flustered for the only time before the media. We then talk about Anthony Rotich getting his US citizenship before turning to Athing Mu getting upset at 800m by high school freshman Roisin Willis, whose mom was an Irish Olympian. We then share some listener audio before ending with an official obituary of the 5,000m. If you don’t have 75 minutes to listen to the whole thing, we give you detailed time stamps below the player of what happens when so you can skip around.
