The 2018 Nike Cross Nationals are in the books.
In the women’s race, Katelyn Tuohy successfully defended her crown, lowering her own course record to 16:44 to 16:38 as Kelsey Chmiel was the runnerup for the 2nd year in a row in 16:55. It also was the 4th straight top 5 finish for Chmiel who was 4th as a freshman and 5th as a sophomore. In the team battle, Oregon’s Summit High School won with 120 points, snapping Fayetteville-Manlius’ 4-year win streak. They are the first West coast women’s school to win.

In the boys individual race, the top returner from last year in California’s Liam Anderson (Larkspur, Calif.) moved up from third to first as the 5:09/8:52 performer won in a course record 14:58. He’s the first boy to break 15:00 in the five years that the race has been held at the Glendoveer Golf Course. Indiana’s Cole Hocker (4:09/9:06) ended up second in 15:01 but the guy who stayed with Anderson the longest was junior Cole Sprout (4:12/8:49) of Colorado who ended up third in 15:03.
In the boys team race, Loudoun Valley (VA.) became the first boys team to repeat and they did it in style with a record low of 77 points.
