Usain Bolt opened his 2016 season running 10.05 for 100m at the Cayman Invitational on the Cayman Islands to get the win.
While Bolt has opened his previous Olympic campaigns in the 100m running 9.76 in 2008 (the first year he broke the world record and established himself as a 100m runner) and 9.82 in 2012, the 10 second plus clocking here should not worry Bolt fans. Bolt opened at this same meet in 2013 in 10.09 and went on to win Worlds in 9.77 in Moscow.

In other action at the meet, Kendra Harrison ran 12.42 in the hurdles, giving her the 3 fastest times in the world in 2016, Jenna Prandini got the 100 (11.16) and 200 double (22.63), Phyllis Francis won the 400 in 50.71, Miguel Francis won the 200 in 20.16, and Machel Cedenio won the men’s 400 in 45.10.

Bolt post-race, “It didn’t feel as smooth, but it was expected (in my first race). Just like last season I need more races to get sharp. I am no worries”.
