Last month at the USATF Annual convention, the USATF Membership voted 392-70 (85% to 15%) to nominate IAAF Vice President Bob Hersh as the USATF nominee to the IAAF Council.

The USATF Board of Directors then voted 11-1 to ignore this recommendation and nominate one of their own, USATF President Stephanie Hightower, as the USATF nominee to the IAAF Council.

This move obviously was unpopular with the USATF membership, whose delegates had just voted 85% to 15% for Hersh. Now, some of the USATF associations are starting to push back.

USATF New England President Tom Derderian has forward a letter to LetsRun.com that the USATF New England Association wrote to the USATF Board of Directors asking them to overturn their decision to nominate Hightower. In the letter, Derderian indicates that the Long Island and Southern Cal Associations also have asked the board to rescind their nomination of Hightower.  Update: Track and Field News earlier reported that the Long Island and Southern Cal USATF Associations and the USATF Athletes Advisory Committee requested earlier this month that the Board reconsider its decision and nominate Bob Hersh.
