How To Follow Sunday’s LA Marathon

KTLA will offer live television broadcast on Channel 5, with cable rebroadcast on Universal Sports; Monarch Sports will provide radio commentary on AM 570 KLAC and up-to-the-minute Twitter updates via @LAMarathonINFO 

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – If you are not able to cheer on the runners in person as they hit the streets this Sunday for the 2013 ASICS LA Marathon, there will still be plenty of ways to follow the race through TV and radio broadcast, and receive timely updates via social media. This year’s sold-out ASICS LA Marathon will feature approximately 24,000 participants.

“We’re excited to bring this event to the community, and we want to make sure everyone can stay up to date on the race even if they can’t join us along the Stadium to Sea course,” said LA MARATHON LLC Chief Operating Officer Nick Curl. “Whether you’re tuning in through your TV, listening to the radio in your car or following Twitter updates on your smartphone, you’ll know exactly what’s going on.”

For the fourth year in a row, KTLA will provide live broadcast of the ASICS LA Marathon, offering high-definition coverage from start to finish and live streaming at www.ktla.com. KTLA’s coverage will kick off at 6:00 a.m. with the annual Pre-Show, blending the morning news, weather and traffic updates with exciting pre-race coverage as the runners head to the starting line. Chris Schauble will report from both the start and finish lines and will host the ASICS LA Marathon Awards Ceremony after the race. Universal Sports will rebroadcast the entire race on cable networks starting at 12:00 p.m. PDT and again at 11:30 p.m., as well as on March 21st at 11:00 a.m.

During the race, KTLA will operate a helicopter and 18 cameras covering every angle of the course, with U.S. Olympic marathoner Ed Eyestone and U.S. Air Force Academy head cross-country coach Julie Henner providing commentary on the elite men’s and women’s fields as they race to the finish. Sports anchor Derrin Horton will provide a mile-by-mile call of the race, along with veteran running analyst Toni Reavis. KTLA reporters will be posted at various locations along the course.

“Once again, KTLA looks forward to showcasing the ASICS LA Marathon, its elite field, and the thousands of unique stories that make this race a special event for Los Angeles,” said KTLA Station Manager John Moczulski.

For those along the marathon course, the action can be heard on the radio. Monarch Sports will once again broadcast live coverage of the race on Clear Channel station AM 570 KLAC /Fox Sports LA beginning at 5:00 a.m. (with live streaming at www.am570radio.com). Emmy Award-winning broadcaster Geoff Nathanson will host the race day broadcast along with Fox Sport West track & field analyst Tom Feuer.

“We are pleased to partner with the ASICS LA Marathon and AM 570 Fox Sports LA to deliver live radio play-by-play to the hundreds of thousands of people along the route who are so important in supporting the runners in their efforts,” Nathanson said.

Along with coverage of the elite divisions, the Monarch Sports broadcast will feature live traffic and weather updates, as well as live features from renowned reporters including American marathoner Milena Glusac, radio hosts Leo Quinones and Scott Calfas and sportscaster Randy Rosenbloom. AM 570 KLAC will also provide up-to-the minute updates via its Twitter feed, @LAmarathonINFO.

For those who are interested in the progress of their favorite runner on the course, the ASICS LA Marathon offers real-time race-day tracking via text message, email, Facebook or Twitter. As the runners pass sensors at designated points along the course, trackers will receive a message instantaneously. The marathon’s website has all of the details on how to sign up.
