NCAA Indoors: Results LSU
Makes History by Sweeping NCAA Indoor Track and Field Titles Kim
Smith Unbelievable: 3k, 5k double with collegiate
records in both; Alistair Cragg makes history
It was a history making day in Arkansas
as LSU, thanks to a 1-2-3 in the men's triple
jump and a runner-up finish in the women's 4*400,
the final event of the meet, became the first
school to win both the men's and women's indoor
titles in the same year. However, even more
impressive was Providence's Kim Smith,
who blew away the field in the women's 3k, setting
her second collegiate record in 2 days, running
8:49. On the men's side, Alistair Cragg,
put on a quite a performance winning the anticipated
dual versus Nick Willis in the 3k, to
become Arkansas most accomplished runner
ever at the NCAA meet. Other highlights
included 19 year old Sonya Richards of
Texas with a collegiate (and nearly American)
record in the 400m and Michigan's Nate Brannen
repeating as 800m champ. Plus, Jeremy
Wariner of Baylor's ran a world leader in
the 400m and helped lead the Baylor Bears
back to dominance in the 4*400 with
a collegiate record. Saturday's Coverage: *Nate Brannen

to get double wins in the long and triple jumps,
Roman Sebrle
won the heptathlon but the USA's Bryan Clay

Must Read(s): "I think that the sports in which you read about doping tend to be the cleaner
sports. I mean, I think if you put Major League Baseball players and NFL players
through lie detector tests [about whether they use performance- enhancing
drugs], fully 50 percent would fail..I did this bike
race, 75 hours. But I didn't feel any sense of achievement. I found
it depressing. Because, to me, athletic endeavors should be one of the most pure
of endeavors. Why else do it? It's a sense of testing yourself." -author
Stuart Stevens, who for 8 months got on just about every performance
enhancing drug imaginable to see how it would affect him, and wrote
about the ordeal for Outside Magazine. The results
were simply amazing as he put on 14 pounds without lifting a weight,
had increased endurance, better vision, and less soreness. The
