I actually love the box! Treat it as an opportunity to relax and draft until an opening arises. These guys may have created your blistering kick. There's a reason they pay good money for rabbits to box in a world record attempt.
It's rare for 3 competitors to stay in the exact same position around you for more than half the race, so the breather is usually brief and little time is lost (even as runners panic imagining the race getting away from them), but I suppose there's always the risk that they remain in lockstep to the end, so I might switch to the lane 1.5 strategy for a big goal race. But it never happened to me and I always benefited from the box.
