They're direct head to head races, so should be pretty easy to follow for spectators, so that seems positive. They're a moderate length, so should be watchable for casual fans.
Only 1 man and 1 woman run the relay for each team. So each athlete runs 400m twice.
Ok, that does seem like a strange addition. It seems more like something a high school team would do for fun in an inter squad meet or as a workout than a serious competition.
Adding the shuttle relays I like, though. They're pretty epic to watch. Although a pro race might lack some of the terrifying drama of the high school level as everybody cringes in fear of a collision when some kid who has never hurdled before crashes right into oncoming traffic.
